I am lovin being a "SINGLE" girl!

Okay, so I have taken the plunge and stepped out of my comfort zone! I have been scrapping SINGLE page layouts and have been LOVING it!
In the past 6 1/2 years that I have been enjoying this hobby, I have always scrapped double page layouts. For those of you who scrapbook in this way, you know the challenges that present themselves when trying to make both sides flow together and feel balanced out. Not to mention, using twice the amount of material and time. Well, I am here to say singles is the answer.

A single page is a breath of fresh air as you are dealing with less. I have been scrapbooking more quickly and am not feeling the frustration that I would often feel with a double (there have been many times that I never wanted to see the layout again by the time it was completed!) Of course the design elements are the same but you are simply dealing with a smaller playing field. In addition, it has allowed me to use up many of my single pictures and just seems more "manageable" when time is on the short side.
This is not to say that I will never do another double layout again as I love the continuity and how it appears in its album . What I am saying though is that I have been presently-surprised and consequently inspired. I have been having a blast stepping out of the box and am happy to find something that is working for me! Here are a few layouts that you can expect to see real soon at the store and online. Happy scrappin girls!

Hello everyone in "Blog-land!"!

Hi everyone! This is my very first time trying out this blogging thing and am a little apprehensive about it but here it goes anyway! I would like to start off by making a confession, scrapbooking has been at its all-time low in my house over the past few months. As some of you may have noticed, I haven't had any new layouts in the store or online as I have been wrapped up in a hectic lifestyle change. Starting in September, I went back to work and this certainly put a dent in my "freetime!" This coupled with the fact that my scrapping room is a disaster left me feeling uninspired and overwhelmed to say the least. Until recently.... Guess what re-inspired my interest? The strangest thing ever - my sons' science fair backboard. When he asked me to help him I automatically started to think of it as a gigantic double page layout! I was thinking colour choices, popping out titles, borders and adding cute little embellishments to fill the dead spaces. Together with my son and his partner, we not only made a great backboard for their science fair but got momma's mojo going again in regards to scrapping! LOL!
So now I am a scrapping maniac and the diningroom table has not been cleared of scrapping materials in the last four days (no, the room is still not organized yet!). So expect to see some new stuff from me real soon at the store and online here. Glad to be back girls!

CDC Silent Auction Fund Raiser!

Ok so Ashley Bader, Miss Northern British Columbia, stopped by to tell us about the CDC talent show. This year she has chosen the CDC as her charity of choice and will be hosting a silent auction the night of the Talent Show showcasing many different local talents.

This is the 35th annual Talent Show for the CDC and they are currently raising funds for "Project Build a Fort" which is their building expansion project. At present the CDC serces over 450 children per year and that number continues to rise.

We came up with the idea that it would be neat to showcase the talent of so many of you who craft, so what the plan is to have as many of you as choose to, bring in a handmade card or something equivelant that we can add to a collection of small handmade projects that can be auctioned off at the Talent Show.

If you are interested or have any questions please just email me at unforgettable@telus.net

Please have your items turned in by end of business day on March 5th so we can get them all ready and into the show! Also Shannon asked that if you would include your name and perhaps a bit about why you love this craft so that they can showcase the many talents of the community it would be great!

So put your creativitiy to work and lets see what we can all come up with for such a great organization!

Cheers,

Lynette

A little on the artsy side!

Here are the pictures of the layout for an upcoming class in March which we were blogging about yesturday. Lynette suggested that I try to use this Rouge de Garance line for a class. I was up for the challenge. I have seen some great layouts using this paper but it is usually not my style.

So after much thought and sketches this is what I came up with. I think it is a little on the artsy side. This layout was fun to complete. I think all the different textures add a nice touch. In this class you will use paint, staples, lots of paper layers, tuile and some stamping.

Come out and have some fun creating this layout on Tuesday, March 17 th. This is St. Patrick's Day. Maybe if all wear green we can talk Lynette into some GREEN TREATS! This layout will be $20.00 for members and $25.00 for non members.

Ha! Ha!

Nice horse picture, Lynette! He's pretty cute "peeking" over the fence. Don't worry ladies you don't need any horse pictures, although they could work in this layout. I can't give you a peek yet. My camera batteries are charging. Plus I am down in craft crap room. As my husband calls it. I'll give you a hint... The class title will be "perspective". I am using our fall family photos, finally. I will try to post a pic soon. It is Thursday and the goal is to have kids in bed early and to watch all my shows until midnight. So I will be up late, might as well scrap too, saves on the amount of snacks eaten!

Are you interested in a Stampboard & Stampscapes class...

Diane's been playing with stampboard and the stampscapes images. If you're interested in a class email me at unforgettable@telus.net and we'll keep a list and let you know when we'll host a class.

Crystal's teasing.....

Each time I talk to her she says we're gonna be so impressed with her next layout class yet she won't bring it by for a sneak....stay posted and perhaps she give us a little peek at what she's up to....

Need a bit of colour?

Feeling the winter blaaas? Do your layouts need a bit of color? Check out this blog at http://colorcombosgalore.ning.com/. Each month they post a new color combo. I really like their designers and each month they feature a guest designer. You can also post your layout using their suggested color combo! Have fun scrapping.

Got Glitter? Doodlebug that is...

Have you tried any of the glitter papers yet? Many of the scrapbook companies are putting some bling on their paper. I am loving the Doodlebug line. I've been picking up a piece or two every time I shop at Unforgettable Memories and using a little, or a lot, on almost every layout I have done in the last couple months. So fun! I wanted to show you a few of my glittery layouts.

On this first one I used a strip of the red patterned glitter across the bottom of a white page. It was a good base for my photos piled on top of one another. And it matched the red glitter Scrapworks alpha perfectly! I think the red is my favourite of all the glitter papers. I also used a piece of the Doodlebug flocked paper in pink. The scallop ribbon and floral transparency is Fancy Pants.

I used a strip of the same red glitter pattern on my Hannah Montana layout. This layout is a two pager, hanging on the wall at Unforgettable Memories.

The glitter works with 'boyish' layouts too. On this one I used the solid yellow glitter to bring out the gold of the autumn foliage. You can see this layout at the store also.

So far I've cut the glitter papers into strips and used them to accent my photos on the layout. Another way to use the glitter papers is to use your punches or diecuts on them. I punched butterflies and flowers out of my favourite red glitter Doodlebug and posted about them here. You can create beautiful embellishments for your pages using the glitter paper. Breanna thought they were so pretty she has glittery butterflies swarming across her entire science fair project this year :)

Last week I decided to try a couple layouts using an entire piece of glitter paper as the base of my pages. I love how they turned out. This first one is on the brown glitter paper. The photo is six years old ~ my Missy Munchkin is only 4 here.

And my last photo is even older. I thought the lovely blue glitter was perfect for a tropical layout. That's me front and center at 10 yrs old. (Rats, I just noticed I spelled Niue wrong :( ...It's fixed now)The pink dot paper is also Doodlebug. Scrapworks glitter alpha and Basic Grey alpha stickers make up my title.

So next time you're in Unforgettable Memories don't forget to check out the Doodlebug glitter lines. They come in lots of colours that will coordinate with most pattern papers you are playing with. I'd love to see what you do with the glitter. Post us a link in the comment section so we can have a look-see.

New Layouts!!!

Hey everybody, I just added some new layouts to the blog. "10 Things 10 Months" is Crystal's layout. Her advice: "Babies change and grow so quickly. Try creating one layout a month that summarizes growth for the month instead of trying to keep up to all the changes." Heather has brought in a lot of new layouts that I have just put on the blog for you. Check out how she used Making Memories notes to create a matte for her photo in the "Tem" layout. You'll have to come in and check them all out!

Save the Date

Okay here is the layout for the "Winter Fun" class on Thursday, February 26th at 7pm. Call, visit or email the store to sign up for this class. Posted here are a couple pictures to check out.
Also, I previously wrote that we would be making acrylic snowflakes with the Cuttlebug. I meant acetate not acrylic. And I couldn't get the snowflakes to cut all the way through using a die so I changed technology and decided to use my Cricut. I think the end result is good.

I found some neat new goodies I didn't even realize I'd ordered ( I know that's bad eh?)

Check out the K&Co Sweet talk line! We've restocked the entire collection it's gorgeous,

Oh and some where in that stack is the new My Minds Eye Valenites Collection too! Great papers and die cut sheets

Winter Fun Class

"Winter Fun"... I don't know about you but we really haven't had too much of that this year. It seems like it has been too cold, too windy or too warm to do the activities we normally do. I know, I know stop complaining. I have managed to get enough good "Winter Fun" photos to create a layout for a class. So I am planning to use the Bo Bunny Winter Whisper paper and some great glitter snowflakes. We will also make snowflakes using acrylic and the Cuttlebug. But I think the most exciting part about this class will be creating a frosty effect using Liquid Applique, lose glitter and chipboard letters.

Here is a look at the product we will use in this class. I finished the letters last night and I am very pleased with the result. It was super easy too. So I just need to get busy with the layout. I hope I have peaked your interest. Stay posted for a picture of the final result. This class is on Thursday, February 26th at 7:00 pm in the Unforgettable Memories classroom. Hope to see you all there.

Sneak peak

I've been shopping. Last week I bought two beautiful butterfly punches. A small paper shaper butterfly and a larger Fiskars butterfly. I also picked up some of the beautiful Doodlebug glitter paper in red and purple and started punching. The large butterflys are beautiful accents on this layout using the Rouge de Garance 'My Fairytail' papers.Did you notice the Kaiser craft pearls I used as the body on the purple butterfly?

I punched some flowers using my Quickutz and inserted a big brad into the centers(they coordinate with the Fairytale line)
And there's a tiny little butterfly sitting on one of the petals.

I used more of the little butterflys to decorate my Maya Rd chipboard trees. I used two different patterns on the chipboard. One design for the trunk and a second design for the foliage. After glueing it down I sanded around the edges to give it a finished look.

You can see the finished layout at Unforgettable Memories.
