Playing with the scraps

I had some bits and pieces of patterned paper left over from my last two Easter layouts.  The nice thing about those double sided designs is that I'm not stuck doing more East layouts with the scraps.  I just flipped the paper over and used the more neutral designs on the back.  Don't you love the little birds singing?

I started off with a piece of white cardstock, one of my new Glimmer Screens and pink Glimmer Mist.  I put a couple of punched butterflies down in the top right corner before misting also.
I layered my scraps once the Glimmer Mist was dry ~ it only takes a minute.
Then my photo was placed.  And lastly I added some embellishments.  A Prima bling scroll, some white hydrangeas with pink jewel centers and the butterflies that had used as a mask earlier and had sprayed with Glimmer Mist.

More photos of upcoming

Here are some more pictures of the upcoming class "A Recipe for a Sweet Family". This class is on May 3th at 7pm. $26.50 for members and $31.50 for non members.

Documenting the tough stuff.

We all know how much fun it is to document all the great photos of our family and friends that bring a smile to our face; all the fun we had at the lake or river, in the sun, eating popsicles, being together, being silly, snowboarding down a snowy hill, photos of our kids or pets or parents looking especially lovely... but we aren't so quick to document the tough stuff. A lot of times there aren't photos for things in our life that were difficult or challenging or downright brutal. And we don't always want to make a layout about it either. But I think it's important to record it somewhere, because these experiences shape us. They are important, even if we'd rather forget them.
This winter we had to take our son Simon for a kidney operation, and it has all turned out well so far, but the experience itself was difficult. I did a lot of worrying. I did a lot of praying. There were tears and some fear. But I wanted to remember it because it's a big part of his little life so far.
I thought a simple design would be better for such a big story, and the photo makes me cry a bit when i look at it. I kept all of the documents from the surgery, his wrist band and a bunch of additional photos in the envelope that i ran through the printer for the title.
Take a look:

Today, I hope the sun is shining on your face as you look forward to summer plans, and that any adversity you are facing somehow seems a little less than yesterday. Blessings.

Recipe for a Sweet Family

Recipe for a Sweet Family will make the perfect gift for Mother's Day this year. You may want to make one just for yourself. I know I am struggling with giving mine away. I may need to make two more. This class is on Monday, May 3rd at 7pm. The class is $26.50 for members and $31.50 for non members. We use all Cosmo Cricket product in this class. The new Garden Variety paper line is so fun.
There is lots of room for photos in this mini book. The backside of each page has room for a 5x5 photo and then most other pages have one vertical or horizontal 4x3 photo. All cuts are simple and this book is easy to put together! Call, email or drop by and register soon!

Another Easter layout and another banner

I love the new trend of making banners on layouts. They are so fresh and happy looking for spring photos.  And they're so easy to make.  Just cut out a set of triangles and lay them across your page.  You can get fancy and actually punch holes in each top corner to string the triangles together or just glue the string to back of each flag.
There are an infinite variety of embellishments to add to your banners.  From little bows to buttons to brads... The possibilities are endless.

I hope you have fun creating a banner on your next layout.  We'd love to see it!

Now I'm off to get messy with the scraps from this layout and yesterdays page.

You know what this means...

I did not lay this stuff out like this on purpose. I was working away and looked over at my stash and this is what I saw. Yup working on another class and yes another minibook. This one will make a great gift for Mother's Day. We use all Cosmo Cricket Garden Variety. Too much fun. Stay tuned for future posts with more details!

Easter photos to scrap, anyone?

It's been ages since I've locked myself in my scraproom to spend some quality time with paper and glue.  With the weather being so nice I've been out digging in my garden and getting ready for summer fun. But I do have a pile of pictures to scrap before the memorys fade and the stories are forgotten.

The layout I worked on last night is of my nephew who at one years old already knows what chocolate is all about.

Have you noticed how popular banners are right now?  I decided to make an oversize banner on this page.  I pulled out some old edging scissors for the white trim on the triangles. And cut some half circles around the bird images on one of the coordinating papers.  I love the fun, colourful patterns of this line.

'hippity hop' is one of my Quickutz alphas and 'chocolate' is a felt Thickers alpha.

Prima's April sketch

Prima has their April sketch up.  I'm not going to tell you whether or not I plan on doing it because everytime I say I'm going to, I never do.  So it will be a surprise for us both if I get it done this month.  :)  I have to say though, that this is one of my favourite sketches I've seen from Prima.

You can see how Prima's DT used this sketch on their blog.
I think Ingvild Bolme's layout is my favourite.  Which one is your fav?
