Paper Piecing used to be huge in the scrapbooking world. I used to do some sort of paper piecing on every layout I put together. But like other trends, it fell by the wayside and other fads took it's place. I've noticed Paper Piecing is making a comeback in some of the recent magazines I've bought so I checked out Scrapbooks Etc's website. They have a tonne of free patterns for you to download. I clicked on the link to Nature-Scene paper piecings and found this cute little deer.
I cut him out of a sheet of 12 x 12 cork I bought at the store. It has great texture so I didn't add all the little bitty pieces of the pattern; just a couple of spots and some inking around the edges and I called it done. The pattern also comes with little nose and eye pieces as well as a white underbelly.
I like the simple look of my deer.
So go to Scrapbooks Etc. Look through their patterns and find something for your next layout. The Nature-Scene paper piecings include a cute little squirrel, mushrooms, owls, and of course, birds. And there's a wonderful Tree Background pattern that I think I may just try on a layout soon.
There are also Halloween themed piecings; Back to School; Flower; Baby; Winter... Lots to choose from.
And come in to the store next week and see the rest of my layout. I used the new Kelly Panache 'His and Hers' line

SEI has a contest going on.
I get their newsletter and this is what it's all about...
"CONTEST
We would love to see what you do with Poppy. Send us any layouts or project ideas you have done or would like to do with this line to contest@shopsei.com by October 17th. We will pick our top 3 favorites, display them in our gallery, and give them a gift certificate to use at shopsei.com. Plus, our #1 favorite will be displayed for a week at the front of our gallery! Winners will be announced in next month's tidbits on October 24th."
Lynette has the Poppy Line in store. It's gorgeous with silver foil embedded in many of the designs. And they're all two sided so you have a choice of designs when you're working with it. Don't forget to check out the coordinating diecuts, mini coasters and chipboard frames while you're there.

A Week in the Life
Ali Edwards is one of my favourite scrapbookers. I like how she incorporates so many of the day to day details of her families life into her scrapbook pagess. I check out her blog every couple of weeks to see what she's working on.
Next week she is going to be working on a 'Week in the Life' album that will focus on documenting everyday details over the course of seven consecutive days. And she's invited her readers to join her. It sounds like fun to me so I'll be packing my camera around all week documenting. Here's a short glimpse of Ali E's instructions...
"Commit to keeping your camera with you throughout the day. Capture everything. Capture things that may seem silly or dumb. Capture the normal. Capture little things. Capture your environment. Here's a couple questions I ask myself or I keep in mind as I am going about this project: what's my daily routine, where did I go, who did I see, what do I do, what does the inside of my home look like, where do I spend the most time, etc. Capture stuff that you use everyday: your computer, a coffee mug, a favorite pair of shoes, a book, etc. Make sure to take a photo of yourself each day"
If it sounds like a fun project check out Ali Edwards blog for full instructions and play along. I'm going to do it.

Looking for some artistic inspiration?
I enjoy trying new ideas and styles on my scrapbook pages. One place I go to find inspiration is the ScrapJacked blogspot. Twice a month the girls over there choose a scrapbook artist to 'scrapjack'. I played this last week. Here's my layout...
Cutting out my photos isn't something I usually do. My ten yr old daughter occasionally does it, but not me.
I distressed and inked the edges of my patterned paper and the kraft paper I used as a base for my layout. Then I pulled out some old EK Success stickers [I never thought I'd use those tap stickers :)] and used them in place of ribbon on my tags.
The journaling is about my son who at thirteen and in Junior High, has absolutely no concerns about being fashionable. Most of his trendiest clothes are hand-me-downs from an older friend. The same friend told his Mum to tell me to tell my boys that it wasn't cool to be seen in 'Incredible Hulk' t-shirts now that they were highschoolers.

Puppy Love!
Thought I would share Crystal's newest layout with you, it features the embossed dog bone paper from Elsie. Crystal sanded the raised bits to enhance it on the page, then accented with the Animal papers from Creative Imaginiations. She brought it by yesterday and I managed to get a scan of it. But just as I was about to hang it on the wall up her darling daughter caught a glance of it and really, REALLY didn't want to leave it behind, It was so precious that she was so attached to her mom's newest layout that she absolutely didn't want her mom to leave it behind. Crystal told me that that is why she scrapbooks, Her daughter loves to look at the pictures and hear the stories and she love's to share them with her. So for now here's a picture of the layout and when she can sneak it from the house we'll hang it up for everyone to see.
Hope you enjoy!

Prima Sketches
Hey there! Looking for some monthly inspiration? Have you checked out the Prima Blog. I signed up and get their monthly newsletter and find they have some fun creative sketches sent out monthly. Thought I would pass along this months:
Perahps you will have some pictures and this will inspire you to get working on those pages. Especially since most mothers (myself included) are enjoying their first morning with the kids in a full day of school. It's one of those things where I feel torn that they are back in school, it funny how attached one can be to having them with you all day and yet still feel the excitement of having them off with their friends and we get some down time.
Enjoy the Prima Sketch, If you feel inspired email me a picture or drop by with a copy of you layout to share and I'll enter you in a draw for some prima goodies!
If you want to get a copy of their newsletter there is a link on their blog which you can find at this link http://prima.typepad.com/
Enjoy your day and see you all soon!

Ohhh and I almost forgot I did get a calendar started for those who like to look at the month at a glance to see what's happening, I will be sure to add more to it soon as Crystal and I just discussed what kinds of classes are going to be coming soon! I'll post them as soon as I have dates. If you click on the event it should bring up a description and a photo if available. Click Here to see
Let me know what you think! We are still getting the website worked on and so hopefully that will be done soon, Until then be sure to check out the flickr gallery below.
Take care and talk to you all soon,
