Glimmer Mist background ~ spray inks

I picked up a mixed media scrapbook magazine last week and found a how-to for this gorgeous background. You will have to check it out in the store because my pictures really don't do it justice. It is very soft and pretty. Perfect for the photos I planned on putting on it.

If you want to try it yourself here's a quick tutorial on what I did.

I started off with white cardstock.  I tore some leafy pp and adhered it to the bottom of the page.

I chose 4 colours that worked with my flower pictures.  Yellow gold, pink, blue and green glimmer mists.

I misted my paper heavily with plain old water.  I used more then 2 of my mini misters full of water.  The paper needs to be good and wet for the mists to blur successfully.
When my paper was wet enough I sprayed the yellow gold all over.  Then I sprayed some blue, then pink and finally a little green. I splattered some white spray ink over top of it all. It was almost too pretty to put photos on it :)

Here are some close-ups of the finished layout...

My title is on a Sizzix diecut I have had in my stash forever.  The alpha stickers are Prima and BoBunny.  I perched a Maya Rd felt bird on top. I punched some green leaves and cut apart a Prima bling piece to make it look like vines growing up the sign post.

A smash journal page is layered under the photo along with a Calico button and some Prima blooms.

More Prima bling and blooms...

And last, but not least the grape hyacinth I made earlier this week.  I posted a 'how-to' for them on Tuesday.  The stick pins are by Little Yellow Bicycle.

If you're coming to the crop this weekend at the Blueberry I hope you bring your inks and mists.  I'm going to.  We can make some fun backgrounds for our photos.

punching flowers ~ a how-to

I love flowers. I'm already missing summer. My SIL gave me some gorgeous photos of my MIL's garden so that's what I'm busy scrapping.
I was looking through my stash for embellishments to go with the photos and decided to try and make some.  There were some grape hyacinth in the garden photos so I thought I'd make something similar.
Here's what I used to make my flowers...

1. Vellum
2. A small flower punch ~ I punched about 35 flowers for each of my embellishments.
3. Needle and thread. ( thin wire would work well too)
4. Glue
4. Glue lines

Punch a whole heap of little flowers (30-40) then string them onto a length of thread.  Scrunch the flowers till they hold together and don't seperate.  When your flower looks how you want it, put a dot of glue at each end to secure the thread.
I then layed my flower onto a glue line.  This will help hold it's shape and also makes the flower into a 'sticker' ready to use.

You can find glue lines at Unforgettable Memories.  They'll be where the glue dots are displayed.  Just ask!

I hope you try these.  They are super cute on the page as an embellishment.

So Happy to see you

I had a lot of fun creating the background paper on this layout.  I started out with a couple sheets of kraft cardstock.  Using a credit card I smeared white Making Memories paint on my page.  You can see some areas are thicker than others and it picks up a little of the texture of the paper.  Then I used an old plastic alphabet stencil and my pretty pink Maya Mist along the right edge of my pages. I hate to waste all that ink on the stencil so I flipped it over onto the center of my pages and blotted.  Next I splatted some walnut ink across the page.
I used the edge of a 'postage stamp' stamp along the top border, smearing it with a little Pinecone ink. I also used a 'print', a 'world globe' and an 'airmiles' stamp on various areas of my pages.

I loved the idea of the vellum, with the cut out hole, on the photos. I've been saving that one in my 'to try' folder for a while.

Papers I used are 'This & That' by Echo Park and an old Imaginisce design (arrows).

Now some closeups...
I stamped the print stamp with Pinecone ink.  The globe and airmiles stamp are used with a burgundy chalk ink.  I added a Maya Rd white rub-on on top of it all.

I added some bling to the felt marker scribbles on the vellum.

I used some scrapworks squares to frame my embellishments. Love the wood clocks by Prima.  The butterfly I punched from vellum with my new butterfly punch.  It's a 3 in 1 so I can get the lacy butterfly shown here, just the silhouetted butterfly and one in between.

A few kaiser jewels and layered all on a misted doily.  So pretty!

Love the sparkley Prima bird and the sprig of flowers.  I think the Prima aisle is my favourite aisle in Unforgettable Memories.

A couple more Smash Journal pages

We had one cloudy, cooler day on our vacation this summer.  We took a vote and the one's that wanted to go to the Community Center to swim, won.
I used up a Cosmo Cricket sticker sheet on this page.  And I strung some Making Memory tags on binder twine. Quick and easy page.

Breanna dyed her cousins hair.  Just a couple crimson streaks.  She was so excited to get 'beautified'.
I used loads of bling on this page.  The purple hearts are a set from Prima.  I used some older diecuts and rubons from my stash. And some of the Smash tape. I love how this page turned out.

Smashing good morning to you.

It's a wet dreary day out there today. A perfect scrapbooking day!

Pictures of our hike to Nita Lake, our little rafting adventure and swimming.  Lots of MM papers, BoBunny stickers and the Smash tape.  Love that stuff!

The photo on the top left flips up with lots more journaling beneath.

---
I really like the right page of this layout.  I sprayed my tree mask and then the rest came together in about 10 minutes. I love it when it is that easy.

Keep an eye on the Facebook page.  I'm hoping we will have another Smash journal evening soon.  Please join us and create.
