Proud Day

I picked up  some papers from the "Feelin' Groovy" line by We R Memory Keepers when I was in Unforgettable Memories last week. The colours and matching embellishments are perfect for all kinds of summer layouts so pull out those summer holiday pictures and get scrapping!

My parents came up for the graduation ceremonies of my two boys.  It was their first visit back to Fort St John since moving away 7 years ago. And it was their first grandchildren to graduate.  I took full advantage of the photo op!

 I tore some orange mulberry paper and tucked it under the green pattern on each edge.

Love the little wood cameras. There are a tonnes in a package.  You may recognize them from a few recent layouts .

 

I layered the sticker flowers belonging to this We R Memory Keepers line, with some Prima Blooms.  The leaf stick pins are Maya Roads and the flag is from the SMASH line.

 

Another of those cute wood cameras.  This one looks like an antique.

I've also used a couple more stickers from the sheet that belongs with the Feelin' Groovy line.

 

The Grandmother and Grandfather tags are from my stash of Making Memories embellishments.

 

I had a couple of chipboard birds that I perched on the jute with a Prima bloom on the end.

All Dressed Up

We found this cute collar and tie for my Mum's dog at the Touch of Salt Spring craft and art show last December.  We made him pose for a ton of photos.  Kona was a very good sport about it all and didn't even try and remove his tie.

I started with a forest green Bazzill cardstock. Using MM metallic gold paint and a piece of bubble wrap I added some colour to the base.  I sprayed my cheesecloth with gold Glimmer Mist and spritzed a little on the cardstock also.

I wanted to do a punched border and found this Christmas lights punch in my stash.  I used it along one edge of my gold cardstock.

 The snowflakes are by Maya Rd.  I've used them before on this layout. Here I've dressed them up a little with Kaiser gold bling.

 

The gold stars came out of a Making Memories set of Christmas poinsettia's, leaves and stars. They'd be easy to make.  Just punch a star out of red cardstock and coat with glitter.

Stamping and Vellum

We got a new puppy for Christmas this past December.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with Christmas photos still waiting to be scrapbooked.  Unforgettable Memories has a great selection of Christmas papers and embellishments grouped together.

I spotted the Kaiser wood-cut ornaments on a recent trip and grabbed it.  I thought it would make a gorgeous border on one of my pages. 
I rubbed it with gold ink and then used 'crackle accents' by Ranger tattach gold micro beads. I sprayed some bronze Glimmer Mist and rubbed some red ink on parts.  I kept playing with the inks and accents till I was happy wiht how it looked.

The vellum has white snowflakes printed on it.  So pretty.  I've accented a few of the snowflakes with bling.

I started off by stamping a holly stamp randomly across the top of my 'harvest gold' cardstock. Instead of reinking each time I stamped 3 or 4 times with the same ink. The faded images give some depth to the border.
I used red acrylic paint and the end of a paint brush to dot a few of the holly berries. The gold glitter stars and poinsettas are Making Memories. I added Kaiser jewels to the center of the flowers and to accent some of the holly berries.

My journal spot is from one of the Smash Journal pads.  Love them! Each pad has a few different designs included. 

Love this BIG poinsetta.  I've been saving it for a special project. The round frame and smaller flower are from an old Basic Grey Christmas line.  Basic Grey never goes out of style.
The heart and oval stick pins are with the Wedding scrapbook supplies at Unforgettable Memories.

123 Challenge Blog with BoBunny

I finished another challenge for the month of May.  I thought it was just in time but, dang it, it is already June in Australia so I'm too late.  Anyway, here it is...

The 123 challenge was red, balloons and the word 'happy'.

 

This BoBunny line has some really cute embellishments.  Like these little cameo's.

I added a blingy heart to the center of my wood camera.

The metal flowers came in the same embellishment pack as the cameo's.  I layered them on top of green Prima flowers.

May's Kraft It Up challenge

One of the blogs I check out each month and always mean to play along with is Kraft It up.  I've linked it in previous challenge posts.  This month I actually got around to making a layout.  Kraft It Up's May challenge is to create a 'vintage inspired layout'.

I had a black and white photo to use on my layout. A picture of my Dad from many years ago.
The packaging from the Prima alpha sets feels vintagey to me. 

I layered patterned paper, fabric filmstrip pieces, washi tape and some Prima under and around my photo. The square bradsand the little dots are Kaiser bling.

I have a million and one different alphabets, but ended up hand printing my title after trying half of them and not finding the "right" one.

 

 

I used some "almost" vintage products on this page. Remember when those plastic slides were popular? I discovered they are very easy to cut with scissors.

The carnival stamp I boughtages ago because it was unique and I loved it. I wondered what projects I'd use it on.  It has worked on a couple of my kids layouts and now this one.

Lots of layers always creates great texture and interest.

So that's my challenge entry!

UNWIND

Is everybody ready to do some scrapbooking this weekend.  It's going to be tough to stay inside with a weather forecast we've been waiting months for, but I have a couple pages planned.

Here's a double pager I just finished last night.

I built this one on a couple of 12x12 sheets of tan coloured Bazzill. The photos are of my family walking around Victoria.  We do a lot of walking when we're in Victoria.  There's no snow! Ever! It's wonderful!
My journaling is on pages of a Smash note pad.  Check them out when next in Unforgettable Memories.  There is a great selection of designs and themes!

 

My title is an old rubon I've had in my stash forever.  It's a Making Memories one.  They last so well.  Some cheaper brands I've bought have ended up losing their stickiness and I've had to toss them.

I layered tags, a frame from an old sticker sheet, rubon letters, Smash pad pages, and black Maya Roads snowflakes. 

A punched dragonfly, chipboard, bakers twine tied around a couple of stick pin leaves and sticker words are some of the embellishments I placed on my page.

I just love these black Maya Roads snowflakes.  There are quite a few in the package so I will be using them on a few more wintery pages.

Overlays and sparkles

Overlays are a great way to add lots of detail quickly and easily to a layout.  Unforgettable Memories has quite a few different designs.  The overlay I used on this layout is a Christmas themed one.  The border around the page, the Love quote along the bottom and the corner scrolls are all printed on the overlay. 

I placed my photo, mattings, 'Smash' journal spot, and a couple of flatter embellishements under the overlay.   The Prima flowers, butterflies, wood stars and Kaiser jewels are on top of the overlay.

My base is white and the words on the overlay are white so I used some green metallic Making Memories acrylic paint under the overlays title and quote so it would show up better.  I also edged my photo matte with the same green.  It matches the green border of the overlay perfectly!

I used a piece of white sparkly cardstock as a base. I love the little flowers Unforgettable Memories got in.  They are great as accents on punched butterflies, as fillers for flower clusters or just on their own.

I put Kaiser jewels on the overlay design in a few places.  They really bling up my page.

My flower cluster is a mix of pretty Prima flowers and leaves. The cheesecloth underneath it all adds texture.

ho ho Ho. The Prima mini letters come in so many different colours I was able to find the perfect colour for this layout.  The sticker words are from the Simple Stories baby line.  The journaling spot is one of K&Co. Smash pads.

Crop night

I had a great night cropping at Unforgettable Memories a couple weeks ago.  I managed to finish the layout below, and almost finish two more, plus have a set of papers and embellishments together for a double pager. 

 The photo is of my two cute little boys snuggled on the couch reading. It is 1997 and my babies are just three years old.

 

I started off by swiping white paint across the white cardstock.  If you want paint drips to be clear and vibrant it's a necessary step.  The ink will soak into the cardstock before it makes nice drips if that base coat isn't there. Make sure the paint is dry before spraying.

 

The little canvas sticker letters are Prima.  They come in a great variety of colours.  Check them out at Unforgettable Memories. 

 

The flags and pennants layered under the 'The Good Life' sticker are all from the same 'Fancy Pants' line, as are the patterned papers. It all goes so well together!

Spring Wreath

 What else is there to do on a blistery Sprinter day?  After school today my daughter and I created this cute spring wreath.  We picked up everything we needed at Unforgettable Memories Foto Source.  Well, everything but the little birdie.  We used a grapevine wreath, mini eggs and nest, Prima flowers and a large ribbon.  Hailey took him off a hat from her Scarecrow costume from when she was two!  We attached the everything to the wreath wire and a glue gun.  I hung it on the door outside.  It looks a little out of place with the crappy weather outside.  But we can only hope for Spring.

Mists: Compare and Contrast

Recently, I've been looking at different brands of mist.  I love the looks that people get with mists, but I am not one of those people.  I have been known to do a cool thing or two, but often it just doesn't work out.  I love looking at layouts done by people with misting skill as well as sprayed art journaling backgrounds.  So, these past few days I have been practicing on cardstock and am getting a little better.   That's inspired me to go shopping, and pick up some more mists!  But, I've been wondering - what is the best kind to get?  They all do something different, and how are you supposed to know?  So, I did some research which I will share with you:

Perfect Pearls Mist

Perfect Pearls Mists:  These mists do not have any dye in them.  They need to be shaken before using, because they have mica powder in them (the stuff that traditional Perfect Pearls powder is made of).  They create a coloured shimmer on your page - they do not dye the page a colour.

Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels

Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels: These too are shimmer sprays.  Some will faintly dye your page a colour; others won't.  The difference between these and Perfect Pearls (in my experience) is that the colours tend to be a little brighter.  These look really beautiful on embellishments such as paper Prima flowers to give them some shine.  There is a lot of moisture in this spray, so your page will curl - but, if you heat set it, it will flatten back out.

Chalkboard Mist by Tattered Angels

Chalkboard Mist by Tattered Angels: Just as the name suggests, these have a chalky look.  They are semi-opaque, so they will dye your page that colour slightly.  They too, give a shimmery look.

Maya Mists

Maya Mist - These mists are very vibrant.  If you are not a great mister, you can use these inks simply to colour chipboard.  A quick spray and the chipboard is completed covered in colour.  These don't have any shimmer (unless you buy a metallic version), but have very bright, deep colours.  Unforgettable Memories currently has a great selection of these mists in stock!

Mr. Huey's by Studio Calico

Mr. Huey's by Studio Calico: These mists have bold, matte colours, but they are slightly translucent.  They have an Opaque White colour which is a nice option.  They dry quite quickly on your page, meaning that they don't warp your page much with extra moisture.  Most of their line of mists dry pretty true to the colour on the label.

Dylusions by Ranger

Dylusions by Ranger: These mists have bold, vibrant colours beyond any other mist.  They are reactive with water, so you can very easily blend colours together.  Unforgettable Memories will be receiving their first shipment of these mists within the next few weeks!

Adirondack Color Wash by Ranger

Adirondack Color Wash by Ranger: These inks are made to work on fabrics, which means they will not wash out if you'd like to do some misting on an apron or other clothing.  This doesn't mean you can't use them on paper crafts too though!  They make a wide variety of colours that coordinate with the Adirondack ink pads line by Ranger.  They too, are a translucent spray.

Smooch Spritz

Smooch Spritz: These sprays come in a glass tube.  They are a bit more shiny than some other sprays.  Smooch makes a great pearlized spray!



This covers most of the mists on the market.  There are a few others out there, but I do not have any experience with them.  You can, of course, use a drop of Distress Ink reinker from Ranger and a bit of water in a mister and make your own too.  This is always a fun option because you can mix your own shades of colours!



Stop by the store today and visit the stamping aisle and check out all the mists available.  Happy misting!

EDIT: I thought I should add that on occasion, your misters will clog.  I've heard some people say that they have assumed they were broken.  Don't throw them away!  Pull the mister part out of the bottle and wash it thoroughly with warm water.  If the mist stains your sink, the best thing I've found it clean it is Magic Eraser.
