Happy Canada Day!

Did everyone enjoy all the festivities yesterday? I know I did! I got myself a pretty good sandal tan, not to mention the faintly tanned maple leafs on my leg from my rubon tatoo. Don't forget that all this week you can save 20% on anything red and if it has red AND white members will save 30%! What a great deal!

Rubon Contest Entries

Jane Cullen brought in this great layout. I love how she mixed all the shapes here. The single bracket is awesome.
Collette Lucier used rubon words on her photos as well. She didn't have any home repair specific rubons, so she actually used wedding rubons. How smart!

New Stamps and Contest Info

New weekly contest starts tomorrow - Between June 18 and July 2nd bring by a project that uses rubons on something other than paper. Think about rubbing them onto Prima flowers, chipboard, or on top of your photo..... To compete this round complete a layout, card, or altered project that fits that weeks theme and bring it in. We'll snap a photo and then you can take your work back home. At the end of each challenge we'll announce a winner to receive an awesome prize. We even have goodies for those who participate. This is not a judged contest, the winner will be chosen from a draw. If you participate you have a completely equal chance as all other participants to win.

The Challenges Continue......

So along the past few weeks Ang and I've polled many customers on how they like the contest that we ran for the month of May in celebration of National Scrapbook Day! Well since the response was so great that you really enjoyed the Challenge and found inspiration in trying to work in different elements, perhaps with unfamiliar product lines and such I've decided to continue with the challenges. The only change that we'll really notice is that the challenges will be posted every two weeks to give you a little more time to work on your pieces and we'll try and keep you creatively inspired.
So to recap the deatils......

Week Four Winner

Congrats to Donna Ritchie for winning week four of our National Scrapbook Day Contest! She made this Father's Day card. I love all the little metal pieces on here - very masculine. She has won a 6x6 paper pad with alpha stickers, and a coordinating 6x6 album!

This is the end of our month long contest, but not the end of contests in general. Look for us soon to announce more fun challenges!

Family Contest Entries and Inque Boutique

Here are the first four entries for our final week of the NSD contests.... the theme was anything family. Thanks for the great inspiration guys!

Amanda Cromer emailed us photos of her baby file folder. I love pink brown and green together - what a great combo. The little pull out tabs are perfect for extra photos and journaling.
Sorry Kate, I just noticed that darn zero that fell off is sitting at the bottom of the scanned layout! Kate North did a great job of picking colours to compliment her dark photos. Love the pop of orange.
Lego Land! Totally fun, I want to go too! Vicki Wilson's family took a trip here and she did a super job scrapbooking it! I love all the little dots. I also like the traditionally bright lego colours, and the fact that she wrote about who came, but wasn't in any photos.
Wendy Jansen also had dark photos and struggled with how to scrapbook them. She came up with this neat star desgin which keeps the focus on the individual faces!

Inque Boutique arrived yesterday - if you were in my card class and need your stamps, they are now here. Sorry once again for the delivery holdup. For those of you who haven't invested in Inque Boutique yet - you should. And here's why: they are totally inexpensive. This is because they are unmounted rubber, you're not paying for the wood. I know unmounted rubber is really annoying to a lot of people because how do you mount them, you still can't see through the stamp etc... well, these come already with cling - you stick them on your acrylic block, stamp away, and peel off. No permanent mounting. They also have a black outline of the design on the other side of the stamp, so even though you can't see through the stamp, you can still see exactly what you're stamping. Not too shabby eh? They have thought of everything, including giving you a piece of cardboard to store them on, a small stamp mat in every pack, and extra cling for when they get unsticky! The large sets cost only (get ready, your socks are about to get knocked off) $16.49 - yeah, you read that right. The little sets, $4.99. We also have some little sampler guys that are only $1.99!!!! A product called Inqueboard, which is essentially chipboard is here too. Oh, and don't forget about their clear stamp/unmounted stamp storage systems. Eye Candy and A Winner!

What a beautiful day today!! I wanted to share this layout Heather dropped off last week. She did a wonderful job of mixing Cosmo Cricket Fleuriste with SEI Jolie Chocolate, Bazzill Cardstock with an Edge, and Making Memories Animal Cracker letters. What a stunning layout! The little arrow (Basic Grey!) helps to draw attention to the photos. She's also got some KI Lace paper in there - a great little big of green embellishment. You can find this, and many of Heather's pieces in the store!

I'd like to congraulate Tania Finch for winning week 3 of our contests! She won a Making Memories Tag Curler and 3 packs of tags!! Her entry is shown below, she printed images off her computer on sticker paper to make her own embellishment. A cool idea for those random projects for sure. Starting today is the family contest - bring in a layout, card, or altered piece about family! Keep those entries coming guys!

Make Your Own Embellishment Contest & The Good Life

Wow, I've been totally slacking on the blog posting, sorry guys! Not much to report around here, although I do need to show you all some awesome entries for week 3 of our contest! Here are entries involving hand made embellishments!

Cheryl Pauls made this bow out of strips of patterned paper! This would be a great way to use up scraps. Totally cool concept here Cheryl!
Carmen Munro altered a file folder! This would make a neat coffee table book. She's created lots of little embellishments on each of the pages.
Collette Lucier really took the challenge seriously on her layout! She's got a handmade shaker box up in the corner, a folded paper flower, and created her own title using her Cricut!
Kate Watt punched flowers to make this gorgeous joy card! Love the mix of blues with the pop of pink and purple.

The page is great for any type of happy time photos... mine showcases photos of Ryan's family up at the cabin back home. If you haven't used Thickers yet they will blow your mind - once I discovered them I instantly had to have them in every colour and texture. Fall Fair - Scrapbook Contest

The 61st Fall Fair will be happening at the North Peace Fair Grounds August 16th and 17th. Did you know that each year they run a scrapbooking contest and we sponser the prizes? That's right guys, you can win gift certificates to spend here - the most fun place on earth (okay, I think that's Disneyland, but I'm going to say we're the most fun place in FSJ for sure).

The categories are:

- Scrapbooking 8 1/2 x 11 layout (one or two page)

- Scrapbooking 12x12 layout (one or two page)

- Scrapbooking - judged on journaling

- Scrapbooking - best page overall

- Cardmaking - 2 cards

First prize in each category is a $20 gift certificate to Unforgettable Memories. That way you can choose your own prize!! It looks like there will be lots of fun things for kids and adults.

Create your own embellishment!

Here's a photo of me and Jane today - she came in to pick up her prize for week two of our contest. Jane won a Chatterbox page kit and Making Memories wristlet purse.

And now onto week 3! Vicki Wilson created the butterfly on this card with her Cricut. She cut the same image out in several sizes and layered them. The butterfly is done up in patterned paper and cardstock, and she added glitter to spice it up.

Vicki Wizniuk added shine to her card in a different way; she covered a chipboard piece in patterened paper to match her card, sanded the edges and covered it in glossy accents. For more depth, she added a second chipboard flower and a brad.

This week is all about making your own embellishments! No premade stuff this week, we're going back to basics. Layer some diecuts or punched pieces, hand cut a title, stamp an image, colour it in, cut it out, and pop it up. The choices are endless really......

Happy Birthday Queen Victoria

Happy May long to everyone! I hope you are enjoying your weekend!!!! Lots of great camping, backyard BBQ's, and boating photos to scrapbook soon I'm sure. The weather is gorgeous! Sorry I didn't post yesterday. We were working hard to get Doodlebug out on the shelves. And here are some shots for you to see just how much of it we got! Those photos I took the other day just don't do it justice to the amount of choice there really is. Look at all this paper! There's still another rack of it that didn't make the cut for the photo too! 12 colour choices, 4 regular patterned papers in dots, stripes, florals and filagree, one decorative flocked paper and one regular flocked paper. Wow, it makes my heart race I'm so excited. There's glittery papers that coordinate shipping in approx. one months time as well. Is it bad to want one of everything? haha. Here's the flocked brads, bottles of flock, and glitter multipack. There's some mini rubons and some glitter brads etc from before in this area as well. I love Doodlebug because they always release the same colours, so you can easily mix your old with the new. So ingenious of them.

And now, more contest entries. You guys are all amazing, seriously. Thanks for entering. I know I've said this a thousand times now, but I love your work. Everyone's got their own style and it's great to see it.

Amanada Cromer emailed us in this lovely shot. She used to live in FSJ, but has since moved away. Her daughter made this fruit cup as a Mother's Day Gift. They took the bottom off the can to clean it out and fill it again with yummy chocolates! What a great idea!!! Michelle Steiner is card-maker extrodinare! She really pays attention to every little detail. The little biridie is a Hero Arts stamp. She also stamped "to one of my favorite Peeps". The "Happy Bird Day" and "Tweet Wishes" are printed off the computer. Lots of QK on this card as well.

Cheryl Pauls created this card. What a great masculine card! The 3 brads help to balance the large deer stamped image. Great use of stamps for the background here as well.
This little bunny was stamped by Danielle Pauls. The cute image is really softened by the organza ribbon.
The lovely Jane Cullen created this layout with Basic Grey paper. I love the mix of embellishments on here as well.
Violet Canning brought in this great card. This could work for a male or female birthday. It's awesome that she took it a little further and stamped the envelope as well.

I want to aplogise to whomever this layout belongs to - we forgot to write down your name! Please let us know so we can give appropriate credit! This layout is a great example of using stamps where you might not have other embellishments that fit your theme.

Stamping Contest Entries

Here are four more wonderful entries for Week 2 of our National Scrapbook Month Contest. All entries use stamping.

Jen Louie's son's handwriting is preserved forever on this keepsake layout. She stamped the orange bracket journaling spot.

A simple statement can easily be made into your title. Carrie Ann Simpson stamped "I Love Vacation" as her title. Great use of memento's too, using the Carival Cruise Lines tag.
June Buburuz stamped several elements on this page. The "Take Time to Enjoy...." stamp and moon in the upper left were stamped with a Tsukineko Glue pad and then glittered. There are small foot prints stamped on the chipboard heart.
Sarah Kurjata felt the bottom half of her layout was missing something, and remembered our weekly contest. This helped her decide on stamping leaves to fill the space.

Grab a coffee, get some comfy slippers and relax, you're in for a big one today folks. First off, here's all the contest entries I've had for week two.... If you haven't read about it, we're running a month long contest. Each week has a different theme. To qualify you need to bring by a project (layout, card, or otherwise) using stamps. That's all there is to it - until Friday if you bring by a project using stamping you qualify. Again, this is not a judged contest, this is only a draw so everyone has an equal chance of winning!

Wendy Jansen created this gorgeous card. The pinecone is popped up, adding depth. The circle punched out of the green, and the button placed in the space is a real neat detail as well.

Vicki Wilson made an explosion box as a "card" for a friends birthday. I love all the bright colours. The butterflies are on little springs - so fun!

I love the little catterpiller!

The box when closed....This pink card was brought in by Vicki Wizniuk. Her background is all stamped, and the main focal flower was stamped, cut out and the petals were bent to add dimension.
Carmen Munro did a beautiful job creating this card! The entire background is not preprinted paper - it's ALL stamps. Totally a genious way to use up scraps of paper (like those white sheets you get in your album page protectors and never use).

Last weeks' winner Kate Watt made this layout. The flowers, crayon and ruler are all stamped. I love how she encorporated Quickutz in here as well. The flourishes and title were done with QK.

Today was an exciting day. Shipment one arrived from Doodlebug today. It contained flocked papers, patterned papers, flocked brads, and containers of flock! So basically, if you need anything flocked we definately have something to satisfy you!! If you don't know what flocking is, it's textured and feels very soft, like velvet. The bottles of flocking on their own can be used with a glue pad and stamps, or any sticky surface, to create your own fuzzy embellishments. They have a starter kit of flock that gives you a small jar of each colour to get going.
