Relax

I started off with a couple sheets of Bazzill cardstock, I think it's called oatmeal ~ a light brown colour. I swiped a terra cotta coloured Making Memories acrylic paint in a big rectangle across the two papers, then sprayed coffee coloured Maya Mist over my Tim Holtz mask.  That gave me the vine scrolls.

I used some green ink mist to make the big 'sploosh' in the bottom left corner. I used a straw to blow the mist outward. The purple mist was sprayed along the center of the pages then I held the papers up so it ran downward and upward. 
I used one of my Kaiser texture stamps around the edges with 'pine cone' tsuniko ink.

 The cheese cloth is sprayed lightly with brown spray so it's not so white.  The flowers are Bo Bunny, Prima and 7Gypsies. I used some Making Memories fibres and Bo Bunny chipboard from my stash to embellish.

Another bingo card from the Simple Stories paper line and some of their stickers finished off my page.

Another layout for my Mexico album.  I'm so glad I have emails and journal entries so I can do the journaling. I was hoping to have this album completed by now. Don't forget to write down those memories. 

Purple

This months challenge at white with 1 is 'grape'.  This is what I made for the challenge. There are photos below of my background in process and some close ups of the details.

 

My page is bordered with 7Gypsies musical washi tape and some iridescent purple paper.

I've accented my photo with Prima flowers, Maya Rds snowflakes, Smash post stamps and K&Co stickers (butterfly) with iridescent purple accents.

I used Thickers alpha stickers for my title and purple bling in the center of some of my flowers.

I just love those Maya Rd snowflakes. You get several sizes in a package and a few of each size.  I've used them on a few layouts so far and have lots left for future layouts.

This is the start of my background.  I used a 12 x 12 scroll mask and spread paint across the page with purple Maya Mist for colour.

This is what it looked like when I pulled off the mask.

The purple was very washed out so I added some more purple mist by dribbling it down my page while holding the paper upright.  Love how the dribbles settled in the masked areas and the ridges of the paint as it ran down.

The Man Cave

I sprayed the background green card stock using my Tim Holtz curly mask with a mustard dye ink for my last layout(the one with the pond photos) and then didn't like it so I set it aside.  I used the messy background to blot off the gold ink on my leaf stencil, and used it again to test spray my pink spray which was clogged. Then I started liking it.  Especially with this photo of the men hanging in the garage.  A grungy background for a 'kinda' grungy photo.

The last time I was in Unforgettable Memories I spotted these amazing background stamps by Kaiser.  And they were cheap.  Under $4.00! I bought three designs and just so you know, I'm going back for the other two. I used the 'wood panel' design to do my journaling on, down the right side of my page.  I used the one that looks like stone work (already tossed the packaging so I can't tell you the proper name) around my photo and in the top left corner. I think this one is my favourite, though that might change by my next layout. I used the third, called 'sketchy' around the border of my page. 'Sketchy' is stamped on top of a border of Inca Gold; another new product I discovered on my last trip to Unforgettable Memories.  You can check out techniques for Inca Gold on youtube.  Just do a search.  The Inca Gold comes in a little pot and is easy to apply just with your fingers.  The more you rub and buff the shinier it gets.

I found a couple of scraps to matte my photo with; wood grain and yellow plaid.

Some text washi tape and beads were all the accent I needed with all the stamping and inking already on the page.

I couldn't resist adding some pink onto my masculine page, especially after unclogging my pink mist on the background.

The printed flowers are Graphic 45.  I think the pink brads in the center really make them pop.  And I've still got loads of chipboard cameras to add to my layouts. There are dozens in a package and they are cute on any scrapbook page, no matter the subject.

So just remember; there are no mistakes!
What doesn't work one day will work another.

My Mind's Eye layout

This page is using more of the Follow Your Heart line by My Mind's Eye.  The colours are a little brighter than the papers I used on my last layout, but I used all the same Prima blooms and embellishments as on my last page.  It's not a double page layout, but I think the two pages will face each other in my album so I wanted them to coordinate.

I love the printed Prima blooms and they are the perfect size.

I layered 7Gypsies tissue paper underneather my photo strip.

 

A third chipboard piece is surrounded by loads of Prima blooms.  I cut up a vine for my last layout. You can see the remaining flowers and tendrils peeking out on this layout.

 

 

I stamped another tag, tied a Making Memories 'daughter' tag to it and placed it with one of the wood camera cutouts above my photos. I stcuk down pieces of musical Washi tape. Love that stuff.  If the glue doesn't hold the tape will help hold everything in place as well as being decorative.

Coffee time

Have you seen the wonderful coffee themed kraft papers in the store?  I cut the coffee banner directly from the paper, for my title.  I love the strip with the little coffee cups on it. One of our Whistler traditions is to walk down to Starbucks every morning at 7:3 gr frappacino. No sleeping in when we're on holidays with Grandma :)

The background is red bazzill sprayed with brown mists, splattered with black paint and dabbed with white dauber.

The big Bazzill buttons are great for flower centers.  I use them a lot.
The  chipboard jar is wrapped with bakers twine and I added a butterfly just because.

The lightbulb strip is some washi tape.  Unforgettable Memories has a great selection of tape scattered throughout the store. I want one of each.

Some more tape, chipboard and layered beneath it all is 7Gypsies tissue paper, cardstock and vellum.

 

My photos are all 2x3 size.    Unforgettable Memories developes in all sizes. Big and little.

Challenge #2

This time I played at White with 1.

The challenge is to use white with kraft and to layer.

I started with a piece of kraft cardstock and using my Mr Huey's white mist and my Tim Holtz scroll mask I created the background.

I started layering with a crumbled piece of 7Gypsies tissue paper.  I could have used an old sewing pattern for the tissue paper, but the 7Gypsies stuff is so pretty.  It has butterflies, bird cages and postmarks stamped randomly all over it.  I love it.

I layered a doily and a Jenni Bowlin journaling piece under the photo and a scalloped chipboard circle over top.

I added some white Maya Rd rub-ons around the edges of the tissue paper and then decided they were too white so I painted them with 'latte' metallic Maya mist.

I punched a few butterflies out of white cardstock and used brads to attach them in place.

 The felt bird is also Maya Rd.  I'm using lots of bits and pieces on this layout.

And lots of Prima.  Love all their different styles of flowers.  The ferny leaves are punched out of packaging.

Two challenges finished.  Lots more to go. 

A two page layout using Basic Grey chipboard

Using up my scraps again. I used left over scraps from 7 Gypsies (red music pp), Imaginisce (stripe from travel line) and Basic Grey (green pp)

The cutie in the photo is my niece and she's eating Grandma Lewall's famous angel food cake (though now Grandma usually buys it ready made instead of making it from scratch like she used to)

I used a Maya Road mask ~ I bought it ages ago to build a page on, but never did ~ and cappucino mist to create the background.  I also spritzed gold on a few spots where it looks  a little darker.  It has a very nice shimmer to it IRL.

The banner is one long string.  On my last layout I created the banner in two pieces.  What do you think looks better?  Different looks for different photos :)

The Basic Grey chipboard is from a package of Christmas pieces that I used on a couple of layouts last year.  There was still lots left, to add to my banner and around my title on this layout.  I like that Basic Grey gives you plenty of unique designs in one package.  Like the pretty Christmas flower I put before my title. There were 4 sheets in the Christmas package I bought.

I added some of Bazzills big jewels and put some old Christmas rubons on green cardstock and cut them in little flag shaps.

The poinsetta's and other flowers are all Prima, of course.

I just loved this paper when I spotted it at the store.  The colours are gorgeous and the design is so realistic.  I knew just the photo I wanted to use with it.

This was one of those 1/2 hour layouts.

I cut one of my Prima crochet doilies in half for the banner and glued it to some copper tape I had.
I added lots more Prima flowers. 
The butterflies are K&Co. 
The canvas tag is MM and the transparency is 7 Gypsies.

Is it finished?

I was working on this layout last week.

When it was done I hung it up in my entryway and looked at it for a few days trying to decide if it was really finished.
Then I spotted this layout of the very talented Ingvild Bolme had done for Prima and loved the edging she had done.

My sewing machine is still sitting on my dining room table from a hemming job I did last week so I threaded it with some cream coloured thread. I used my heart border punch along the bottom edge of my layout. I found some black cardstock with white text printed on it, (it's been in my paper stash forever) and stitched my layout down. Then I roughed up the edges and swiped some brown ink across the tops.

What do you think?  Would you have left your layout plain or do you think the edging treatment really adds something?

Getting messy with two page layouts

I got some photos of our pets last month.  Turbo is the cat my daughter got for Christmas last year.  She picked him out herself, at the SPCA.  He is a really neat cat with loads of personality.  Tikanii, our lab/husky cross has a lot of fun with him.  They chase each other round the yard and pretend to attack one another.

I sprayed rose and gold Glimmer Mist over one of the big Glimmer Screens I have. Then used some torn scraps of paper I had left over from previous layouts.  I love the 7 Gypsies paper and I know there's still some in the store so ask for it the next time you go in.  The pinks and greens are the same tones as in my photos and the black flocked design on top really makes it a gorgeous dressy paper though I've shabbied it down for these photos.

The print paper and word stickers are Bella Blvd. The bling corner is Zsa (love it).  The bird cages are Jolee's (aren't they cute?) and, of course, I have lots of Prima on my page.

Turbo also spends a lot of time dreaming about catching Rick's goldfish.  He spends a lot of time peering in to the fish pond and has, on occasion, gone swimming to get a closer look. So far he hasn't had any luck catching a fish, but you know it's just a matter of time.

On this layout I started out with two sheets of the white Bazzil embossed polka dot paper.

I sprayed it randomly with turquoise ink and splattered some darker ink on top of that.

Then I layered my torn scraps of Bella Blvd patterned papers.

The acrylic arrow is a My Little Yellow Bicycle 'clear cut'.

The tags are inked. I used some chipboard from my stash and journaled around them.

The title is Basic Grey. Flowers and leaves are Prima.

Did you notice I used one of my border punches to punch circles in my photos?  Kinda like fish bubbles coming up out through the water :)

Pre School Graduation

Just because a paper line is not the theme you are looking for does not mean you can't use it in your layout. The paper I used for Hailey's preschool graduation is actually a wedding or love paper from Quic Quotes. The graduation stickers are 7 Gypsies and the Cap and Gown is Jolees. It all tied together because of the colours.

I cut half of the backside strings off of the tasel and attached it to the layout with Super Tape. Then I mounted and pop dotted the sticker tags over top to secure the strings in place and stop them from getting all messy later on.

The cap from the Jolees came with a burgandy tasel. I cut that one off and made my own with some of the left over strings. It was small and fidely but I was happy in the end! YAY!

The Quic Quotes paper I used is on sale until the end of this month.
