Play all day

I love the new kraft cardstock by Bazzill.  It has little dots embossed in it.  Great texture.  I sprayed with Maya Mist using a scrap of a scrolly lace paper as a mask.

I cut one of Prima's felt branches in two pieces so I could use it alongside my photo strip as well as under the lone photo on the left.

The patterned papers are by Harmonie and the chipboard accents (including the title arrow) are Crate Paper. I pulled some magic mesh out of my stash, a frame rubon and some Making Memory word stickers.

Punches + maya mist = sweet home decor

Hello scrappy girls! SO - I am currently crazy for mists. Particularly Maya Mists. They are so much fun, that I have been spraying everything. My boys are now Sunflower yellow, gunmetal gray, beautiful blue and royal red. Not really. And I don't think those are technical names for the Maya mists, so don't ask Lynette for those exact names. I'll get in trouble.
I have been making little art projects with my two butterfly punches, and I used them this week to make a mask on cardstock. My first project was very symmetrical:

It looks pretty cool up on the wall. Then I thought i would do something a little more free, and here are the steps.
I chose a light pink cardstock for the background, and punched a bunch of butterflies out of cardstock and laid them out on top.


Then I took some Bubblegum Metallic mist by Maya road and sprayed. (please note that an opened file folder is not big enough for this application and the mist will get on your floor and it will be hard to wash off)

Dump off your butterflies and you are left with: (could totally be used on it's own as background paper for a layout at this point)
(you are also left with a bunch of pink butterflies that are sprayed and can be used on any other project). So, then I punched smaller butterflies in a similar light pink with a bit of texture, and applied tiny pop dots:

I stuck them on top of the masked butterflies and folded up their wings a little for dimension.
Matted in a deep pink and then white...if this was in a white shadowbox frame, it would be smashing! Yes, smashing! And a wonderful baby gift/little girls gift/teacher gift/mama gift...you get the picture.
and of course you can change all the variables in this project : the background paper, the punches, the color of the mist, the paper used for the butterflies....so many possibilities and a fairly quick and easy thing to put together. The misting is total fun, I'll show you another layout I whipped up later this week. Heather is misting all the time and I think it looks fantastic.

Bo Bunny and border punches

I put this layout together last night using another of my Glimmer Screens and a couple shades of Glimmer Mist.  Can you see where I used my little butterflies punchies as masks?  Love doing that.

The papers are scraps from my Bo Bunny Easter pages.  I used 3 different border punches and layered the pieces before adding the bling and Prima blossoms.  The cute little bird at the bottom is from the green paper.

I had all 3 photos stacked with nothing in between them at first, but felt they blended too much so I slipped a border strip in between each picture. 

My kidlets were so cute way back when.

Playing with the scraps

I had some bits and pieces of patterned paper left over from my last two Easter layouts.  The nice thing about those double sided designs is that I'm not stuck doing more East layouts with the scraps.  I just flipped the paper over and used the more neutral designs on the back.  Don't you love the little birds singing?

I started off with a piece of white cardstock, one of my new Glimmer Screens and pink Glimmer Mist.  I put a couple of punched butterflies down in the top right corner before misting also. 

I layered my scraps once the Glimmer Mist was dry ~ it only takes a minute.

Then my photo was placed.  And lastly I added some embellishments.  A Prima bling scroll, some white hydrangeas with pink jewel centers and the butterflies that had used as a mask earlier and had sprayed with Glimmer Mist.

Documenting the tough stuff.

We all know how much fun it is to document all the great photos of our family and friends that bring a smile to our face; all the fun we had at the lake or river, in the sun, eating popsicles, being together, being silly, snowboarding down a snowy hill, photos of our kids or pets or parents looking especially lovely... but we aren't so quick to document the tough stuff. A lot of times there aren't photos for things in our life that were difficult or challenging or downright brutal. And we don't always want to make a layout about it either. But I think it's important to record it somewhere, because these experiences shape us. They are important, even if we'd rather forget them.
This winter we had to take our son Simon for a kidney operation, and it has all turned out well so far, but the experience itself was difficult. I did a lot of worrying. I did a lot of praying. There were tears and some fear. But I wanted to remember it because it's a big part of his little life so far.
I thought a simple design would be better for such a big story, and the photo makes me cry a bit when i look at it. I kept all of the documents from the surgery, his wrist band and a bunch of additional photos in the envelope that i ran through the printer for the title.
