Cosmo Cricket

We just got in Cosmo Cricket's 3 new lines and they are really cute! The three lines are Garden Variety, Material Girl and Joy Ride.

Garden Variety is anything but your "garden variety." Here, the strawberries smile, the peas are friends and the chicks wear bonnets. What could make for happier projects? Simply mix together some cardstock, add in a dash of colorful elements, a healthy serving of Ready, Set Chipboard and sprinkle with buttons. Voilà, a masterpiece.

Open Late This Week

This week we are open late on Wednesday and Thursday till 8 pm. A little added shopping time for those who like to get out in the evenings! We will have the lab open late well!

I Challenge You...

I challenge you to document life right now for one week. We are all busy working or raising kids, volunteering, working out, having fun, watching TV. What ever it is document right now. Use pictures and words to record each day for one week then join me on Thursday, April 8th at 7 pm to create an acrylic album.

This year it is one of my creative goals to scrapbook the everday little moments more often. I have always wanted to make a project using pictures from one week. It is hard to pack your camera around and take pictures of everyday moments. It is so much easy to document BIG events like birthday parties or milestones. Just pack your camera with you everywhere. You might be surprised with the great shots you get!

Here is a shot of the book we will be creating. We will use Bella BLVD. Swing into Spring paper. This is an acrylic album so you will also learn how to plan and layer pages.

This book will also be ready for anyone going to Spring crop. This would be an easy project to finish there exspecially if you take your photos this week and have them ready to take with you.

All photos are 2x3 and horizontal. For Sunday you will need 4 to 8, 4 photos for Monday and Tuesday, 4 or 5 photos for Wednesday and Thursday, and 4 photos for Friday and Saturday.

You have a couple of weeks so get busy and take those pictures! See you in class!

Finding inspiration

Life has been a little more hectic than usual at our house, and when I got a chance to sit down at my art area, I found myself just sitting there staring at stuff, wondering what to do and where to start. Need some inspiration...what to do, what to do... and I look over and see my simple old sewing machine.


OK! I'm feeling inspired to make something. Now...I need a layout upon which I can sew...
So I started here with a simple sewn border - very subtle, but still noticeable and keeps the eye from wandering off the page:


And then I found a package of older Making Memories product and decided to use the tags as a border - no glue, just sewed 'em on.

And then zipped a messy border around the photo and diecuts:


And for the last one, I was looking at my copious supply of Bazzil borders, and had a brain wave:
a layered "snow look" for a page about our first time skiing with our two oldest boys last spring.



I didn't glue any of the borders either - just started stitchin! Hope you have some time to scrapbook this weekend, and maybe you'll pull out that sewing machine a try a few stitches on some projects. Once you start, you'll want to sew on every layout you create. I'm not kidding.

Another Valentine's Day Layout

This is another Valentine's layout. The scallop heart shape is a pocket to store all of Hailey's special Valentine cards. All the paper and embellishments are from My Little Bicycle.

Smooch Spritz!

Smooch Spritz is perfect for creating shimmering backgrounds on cardstock, chipboard, stencils and wood. Designed to coordinate with Smooch inks.

Spray a background on card and pages. When dry, stamp images. Blend and layer colors for creative backgrounds.

Using Journaling notes

I've been waiting anxiously for all the new product to start arriving in the store.  In the meantime I've been trying to use up what I already have and, slowly, clean and organize my scraproom.  I discovered I have quite a few pads of journaling notes.  Mostly Making Memories ones. 
I put together a couple of layouts using those journaling notes as partial mattes for my photos. Maybe I can give you some ideas on using up your extras.

I bought the Making Memories pad of journaling pages when I picked up the coordinating line of papers and embellishments. I used a few pages of the pad for my layouts at that time, but still have more than half the pad left.
On the layout I used 3 pages to matte my photo and a 4th to make the pleated strip and the piece at the top of my page.
The stickers are all 7 Gypsies from their travel line.

On 'my nerd' I used only one journaling note.  Everything else (photos and embellishments) are layered on top.  This was  a really quick simple layout.  Especially because I used a sketch from Sketchy Thursdays.

Smooch!

Smooch are pearlized pigmented inks in a nail-polish bottle. The foam applicator allows you to get into tiny areas for detail work. Use on paper, glass, cardstock, fabric, wood, clay and much more. Great for making backgrounds. Acid-free, archival and fast drying.

• Add dots of color to embellish a stamped image
• Color stamped images
• Layer color over patterned papers
  
• Highlight raised areas of embossed or textured papers, metal, buttons or brads
• Shake well before using
• Create a background by putting a little water into a shallow pan. Dot the surface of the water with a few drops of ink. Use more than one color. Drop a piece of cardstock onto the water’s surface for a few seconds. Then lift straight up.
• Spritz a piece of cardstock with water, then wet a sponge and dot with Smooch. Use one color or more. Drag the sponge over the wet cardstock.
• Use the tip to freehand draw your own unique details and designs
• Gild the edges of papers and boxes
