Got Sketch

Sometimes when I need a push getting started on a layout I check out this blog www.gotsketch.blogspot.com . Each week there is a new sketch posted. Sometimes it is a layout, sometimes a card or sometimes both. You can also see past sketches too. You can upload a picture of your layout and check out other's work. Cool. So if you are searching for that bit of inspiration check out this blog. Here is a sketch from the other day that I used. Notice I have learned to insert images from other blogs and websites! Look out Blogger World!

And here is a look at the layout I completed using this sketch as inspiration. Now of course this sketch is only a one pager. And everyone knows I can't do one pagers, just wouldn't look right in my albums. Sorry one pagers...

So I started with this sketch and once I got to work I was easily inspired to build the second page.

You can check out this layout at Unforgettable Memories. I used mostly Cosmo Cricket Girl Friday paper. I made the flowers using my Cricut. If you don't have a cutting machine you could trace a chipboard shape, use a punch or get crazy and hand draw these flowers!

May's Prima Sketch

Heather posted an awesome sketch of her own. I am totally going to try it out! The Prima Sketch was posted on May 7th over on their website. Sorry, I am not that computer talented to hook you up with a link or a picture nor do I even know the address off hand. Heather maybe you can post a picture of the sketch? Enjoy!

Using your scraps

After dropping off my two Pink Paislee layouts I returned home with the intention of cleaning off my desk and starting fresh with the 'Just Chillin' papers I'd picked up. But I couldn't just toss my Pink Paislee scraps.
And I knew if I put them away on one of my paper shelves they'd just end up getting crinkled up and shoved to the back. So I pulled out a piece of cardstock and started playing with my few scraps.
This is what I came up with...
My two boys and one of their little friends camping in the backyard. Not a great photo; it's a little grainy, but the memories are fun ones.
I even layered the chipboard pieces on top of each other. I'm not usually a 3D scrapper, preferring everything to be flat in my album, but I found 3 layers of chipboard does not make the page overly high and it looks much more interesting than having the pieces lined up in a row.

Create your own sparkly scroll

Here's how...

What you need.

  1. Save the backing from those pretty Prima scrolls
  2. Paper piercer
  3. Stickles in your choice of colour

Place the Prima backing where you want the scroll to be. (Excuse my gardening hands. It's that time of year. :) Next time I'm doing a tut. I'll get a manicure)
Use the paper piercer to poke through the Prima backing and your layout. Make sure you have a self-healing mat under your work. I've found it's easiest to see the placement of your holes if you work in front of a window in natural lighting.
Remove the Prima backing and you can see your design neatly laid out on your page.
Place dots of stickles over the holes. Practice on a scrap piece first to get the dots an even size. And when your hand gets tired take a break. You'll make mistakes if you keep squeezing those dots out when your hand is cramping.

Put your finished design aside to dry. It could take a couple hours depending on how big your dots are.
Any mistakes can be covered up with embellishments when it's all dry.

And here's my finished layout from the sketch in my previous post.

May Sketch

I checked Prima's website for their monthly sketch and couldn't see one. Have they decided to pass on it this month? Anyone know?

I thought I'd make my own sketch for this month. Good thing it's been a slow week at work because Microsoft Word is not the most graphic friendly program to use. Anyway, this is what I came up with. I'm scrapping four 2" x 3" photos.
Notice the scroll along the bottem? I have a very fun technique to show you. I used the waste from a Prima jewelled scroll and stickles to recreate that scroll across the bottom of my photos. When the stickles dries and my page is finished I'll upload it, with a 'how-to'.

I hope you try my sketch and then leave us a link in the comments below so we can see how you interpreted it.

Fun, fun, fun!

So I was having fun today. I blinged, inked, glued, layered, popped, cut and stickled these My Minds Eye Floral Die Cuts like crazy! I love the result.

Check out how I used them on the layout "She's walking, that's my girl". You will be able to see more of this layout at the store in the next couple of days. I used My Minds Eye paper and embellishments in this one. Can't get enough of that My Minds Eye paper. Love it, just love it!

I dropped this bottom layout off at the store the other day. I used all Pink Paisley product for this layout with the exception of some really thick "twig and berries", DoodleBug Flocked paper and velvet ribbon as well as Butterfly ribbon from Making Memories "Just Chillin". I don't know how I am going to get this layout into a page protector. I hope it will fit in those plastic wall hangers at the store. I didn't want to use flowers on this layout as the photos are from March. All though I did end up using the butterfly that was in the chipboard pack... so really...

All done

I am finished my 7Gypsies mini album. Here's a few more of my pages.
A couple of inside pages. You saw the flower page of Breanna while I was working on it. Here it is completed, along with a star page (of Duncan) that will be facing it.

Back cover. The little sticker says 'created by Your Very Tired Mother'. LOL. I thought that was appropriate :)

Inside back cover.

Mini albums are a great way to scrap a few themed pages quickly. I chose to scrap various photos taken over Spring Break.
They also make great gift albums if you can bear to part with it once you're done.
Check out the store. Unforgettable Memories has a great selection of mini albums to play with. I'd love to see your completed albums. Post a link in the comment section so we can all see.
