A month of 2012 is already gone. Have you started to slack off on your new year's resolution? Join me on Saturday, February 11 at 1:00 pm to complete this resolutions class. For $25, (or$20 for members) you can rejuvenate that goal and do a page about you! My goal has to do with health and going to the gym, but you can choose anything you want. The title is cut with Quickutz and you can personalize it with the letter stickers below.

I love these letter stickers from October Afternoon! They are inexpensive and they give you so many letters! I've used my set on a few layouts and I still have e's left! I can't stand it when those run out; the pack is basically wrecked at that point for me.

with Grandma...

When I was in Unforgettable Memories this past week I picked up a couple of bottles of white spray ink.
Mr Huey's and Tattered Angels white Chalkboard ink. I wanted to see how they compared.
I used one of the Harmonie chipboard scallop circles as a mask and sprayed on kraft cardstock.
The Mr Huey's definitely gave more coverage. The Chalkboard ink I found was much lighter.

I also used the Chalkboard 'hot chocolate' to spray the 'abc', from my Thickers chipboard sheet, around the edges. You can see in the top left corner it is not very dark. Chalkboard is better on white or very light coloured papers, I think.

The last time I used my Thickers sheet as a mask I had used 'soot' spray ink. Wetting the 'soot' with the brown spray ink revived it so when I plopped the Thickers sheet face down I got the darker design in the lower right corner. Like it!

Two of the papers on this layout are packaging material. The green dotted paper is from the Imaginisce stickers package and the script, I'm sure you will recognize, comes from a package of Prima flowers.

Once I had my basic layout design, I surrounded my page with all the embellishments I 'might' use and started trying things.

This is what I ended up with...

The vellum is over the photo because Daniel is wearing the ugliest shorts I have ever seen. How he managed to pack them for his trip to Grandma and Grandads, without me spotting and pulling them, I will never know.

The birdcage is one of Prima's velvety rubons. The enamel flower is Websters. I love the twine. There were 3 colours on the card I bought ~ yellow, as seen here, red and blue. I can see myself using this stuff lots.

Isn't the little owl cute? He's from a sheet of owl stickers, all different, all just as cute.

The clip is Basic Grey (from the pet line).

I used another of Websters enamel flowers here.

It's my day off and I'm hoping to get a couple layouts started.

Cute Kids Layout

I struggled with this layout. I wanted use paper that played off the sunny colours of the girls hats and bathing suits and couldn't decide and once I did start making decisions it just wasn't quite right. Then I cut the photos to 4x4 and ended up regretting it but had to make it work. I ended up matting everything to the black cardstock and that was just what I needed. The black cardstock acts as an anchor and balances the page.

I am so glad I commited to finishing a layout a day so that I can get my photos scrapped. I feel so much relief with each page I finish. Set a goal and lets get those photos scrapped!

So we were fortunate enough to get to met the brand newest edition to our family this summer. She is so cute and my girls just love her to peices. I used the brand new paper available at Unforgettable Memories from Simple Stories. I created a one pager for each of the girls using the most special pictures from our visit. And there was a lot to choose from! I love how touching these layouts turned out because I only used photos with the most meaning. Every picture does not to be scrapbooked. It is ok to be a bit pickey.

Layout number 10

This layout is completed using the brand new paper at Unforgettable Memories. I tried to get a good picture of Grandma Lynne and the girls. I probably snapped 10 or more. This is the best of them. Adalyn is such a ham during picture time. Anyways this one will go in Adalyn's album and then I created another one pager using the same photo and paper line to go in Hailey's album. Here is a shot of that layout.

So jsut realized that I haven't posted since Thursday so Today you get to see anothher layout. Lucky you three layouts in one day. Actually four because I see Heather also posted today! Lots of inspiration all on a Sunday. A great day to stay in your jammies and get caught up!

Layout 12

Fall Fair pictures! I used Lemonade from Basic Grey. This paper is from a paper pack I bought a while back. I have used bits and pieces several times. The colours are bright and sunny. Great for girls and summer.

Here's the finished layout on the background I created last week.

If you remember, the last picture in last weeks post showed my photos on several layers of patterned paper. I had to take a bunch of it off because I couldn't bear to cover up all my spraying and inking. I used a few bits and pieces of patterned paper to matte my photos, some cheesecloth for texture and, of course, some Prima flowers.

Other products I used were:
BoBunny stickers and alpha, SEI alpha stickers, MLYB chipboard buddies(aren't they adorble?), Kaiser plane brad. I think thats all.

These photos are from May Long Weekend 2010. The kids have changed so much! Love the simplicity of this layout. I used Cosmo Cricket Salt Air paper mixed with some old embellishments from the stash! I can't wait to get all these new layouts into albums so we can flip through!

Oh this layout made me feel all warm inside. Summer layouts make me smile! Love the bright and sunny feel. I used Cosmo Cricket Salt Air. This paper is still available at Unforgettable Memories and goes great with any summer photos.

Another first day of school layout. Again I used Crate Paper School Spirit. One pagers are a quick and easy way to get photos scrapped. So I guess 11 more layouts to go in my 18 layout catch up challenge. Not counting the surprise envelope of photos I found! Keep on cuttin!

This layout is designed using Crate Paper School Spirit. As I was looking through my bin of newer product I unfortunately found an envelope of photos that have not been scrapbooked. Another layout using My Little Yellow Bicycle Hello Fall. I need to journal on this layout yet but at least it is put together. These layouts are actually coming together rather quickly. It is so easy when you have pictures, sketches and product in mind. It was totally worth it to spend the time going through all my pictures and mathcing them up with sketches. I knew exactly what size to order my prints. I am also enjoying looking through my stash of product and embellishing with the paper I have hoarded away for the last couple of months!

Another one pager. I love this photo of my 3 year old. I used My Little Yellow Bicycle Hello Fall. This has to be one of my favourite paper lines from 2011. I really like how this page came together. Enjoy! There is still some of this line at Unforgettable Memories so stop in and get scrapping!

Mists, paints and inks...

I have a day off so I've taken over the dining room table and I'm making a mess. I have out my sprays, and my ink pads and my Making Memories paints. I picked out a couple of masks from my box and quite a few stamps. Now to decide if I use them all or just a few of them.

I'm using some great textured kraft coloured Bazzill as my base...

First I used my vine mask with applejack Mister Huey's color mists, then with walnut ink I had mixed up myself. I moved the vine mask around my page as I misted.
Second I unscrewed the sprayer from the walnut mist bottle and shook it over my page splattering spots of ink.
Third I painted meadow Making Memories paint around the edges of my page. I did a thick layer so it would still show after step number 4
Fourth I rubbed a turquoise ink pad around the edges.
Fifth I selected a set of long thin stamps and with my black Brilliance ink I created a border around the edges of my page.

I decided I needed some more colour on my page so I grabbed a lemon metallic Maya Mist (it's more orange then yellow) and a red Maya Mist. I used one of my large scroll masks and sprayed some more.

I really like how this is looking...

I have placed my photos, but nothing is glued down aand I'm thinking I want a stronger colour in there. Maybe some red paint splashed along the bottom of the photo matte in the middle of the page? I will have to play with it.

Resolutions class: one little word

I am about to start my new years resolution page! I am inspired by some beautiful papers (Crystal has also used them a few posts down) as well as a challenge set out by Ali Edwards. She is picking one little word to sum up her goals for the year and every month will be scrapping something around that word to stick to the goal. I am not sure if I'll do the year long thing, buy for now I've chosen my word: health. It mainly refers to my wanting to up my gym schedule and pay better attention to the foods I eat. My layout will be featuring gym pics, but you could choose any photos that suit your goal. Start thinking about your goal and look for this class likely the first week in February.

Layout number 3! Only 16 more to go until all caught up. This layout is created using mostly Bo Bunny Barefoot and Bliss. I love the colour combinations and just happens to match the mucky water of Kiskatinaw River and my kids blue bathing suits perfectly! On to number four now.

So here is layout one! I used Fancy Pants Summers End. Stop by Unforgettable Memories and grab some. What a beautiful. I love the soft tones. I also pulled out my Cricut and used it to cut my title. I am happy with the way this turned out!

Up for a challenge

So suddenly my scrapbooking has gotten away from me. I don't know how it happened but unfortunately it has. I have decided to set a goal and get this taken care of!

1. I went through the pictures on my camera and recently uploaded photos. I recorded the orientation of each photo and complied a list based on event or memory. I have 18 layouts to complete.
2. I then went through my scrapbooking magazines and flagged sketches or layouts that would go well with the pictures I have.
3. I sent in a photo order that consisted of 195 photos.
4. So now to get cropping! My goal is to complete a layout a day for the next 20 days. To keep me on track and accountable I will post the layouts daily here on the blog.

Okay so now that I have put it out there, wish me luck!

a quick layout

Happy New Year to all the scrapbookers out there. I expect you all enjoyed yourselves and have lots of photos to prove it.

I put together a quick layout yesterday and took photos as I scrapped.

I started off with a white sheet of Bazzill cardstock. I punched 3 stars out of scrap paper and used them as masks with my Espresso and Gold mists for an easy peasy background.

One of the most time consuming things for me is deciding what papers go with my photos and also coordinate together so starting with white cardstock is a real timesaver.

I decided my matting should be a piece of shite mulberry paper. I love the texture! I chose a couple of fairly neutral patterned papers to use as accents. One torn strip went along the top of my page.

I used a stamp that simulates a stitched line (much quicker than pulling out the sewing machine and trying to figure out how to thread it) and black archival ink to `sew` my strip of pp to the top of my page.

I cut up some magic mesh into strips and stuck it down along the edge of my matte. More texture!

You can see the mulberry paper is a little opaque so the ink mist shows through just a little.

Then I put my photos down...

...a couple strips of patterned paper ground them nicely.

I always like to use flowers on my layouts; even boy ones.

Prima has some less `pretty`colours for more masculine pages. The leaves are Kaiser woodcuts. The stickers I have added on are from a Bo Bunny sheet.

Now I just need a title...

...and it`s done.

How`s that for quick and easy?

A quick gift

Gift giving season has come and gone, but if you have children in elementary school, you know that there are birthday parties seemingly every 3 days. I am always looking for {economical} little gifts for the abundant birthday parties. Here is a version of a slightly scrapbooky project i saw on pinterest:

What's going on here? Well, it's a simple black frame, and a sheet of lined scrapbook paper with a stamped phrase on it. Then, you put the glass on top, and you give your lucky recipient some dry erase markers and they have a fun little REAL LIFE status update poster to put in their room or around the house. (I confess that I wrote the first message in blue ink!!) This example is very simple (it was for a 13 year old boy), but think of the fun you could have with scrapbook papers and embellishments.

Change the phrase, use Thickers or other alphabets, flowers, butterflies - the possibilites are endless. You could even have this in your house for making lists, or having a really cool looking "quote board". I need some more frames...
The only think I would suggest is to make sure the background area intended for the dry erase writing is a light color and not too busy so that it's easy to read. So dive into that massive stash of yours and get busy getting crafty. {PS: can you just make sure that my kids aren't invited to the same birthday party when you make this? Be kinda weird for the kid to get TWO of these ... :)}

My little Artist

I have old photos lying around everywhere. Unorganized and messy. That's me.

My husband is always looking for a bookmark and quite often grabs a photo to use. Especially if it's of one or two or all of his cute kids. This photo he used as a bookmark for several weeks until I stole it back to scrap it.

I'm still playing with travel papers. These patterned papers are Making Memories. And though the photo is taken in our kitchen and not some exotic holiday location I think they work just fine.

I sprayed an old doily with 3 colours of Glimmer Mist and then cut it up.

The Prima bling bird is so pretty!

I used some chipboard scrolls from Bo Bunny's travel line, and some metal branches by Prima, to frame my photo.

The title is also BoBunny product.
The last time I was in the store I spotted some pretty little flowers by Prima. I usually play with bigger flowers, but I really like the size of these ones.

The oval embellishments are by BoBunny. I think there was 6 in the pack. I used 2 on this layout.

December Daily Class

So tomorrow is December 1st. Big day at our house, the first official day of the Christmas Holiday Season. Time to start taking lots of pictures and journaling all about the memories and traditions.

Join me on Thursday, December 8th at 7pm in the brand new classroom at Unforgettable Memories to create this festive paper bag mini album. This class is $30.00 for members and $25.00 for members. We will get a good start on the mini book and you will be able to follow the pattern easily with very detailed step by step photo instructions.

If you are thinking about taking this class start taking photos and journal daily invents. All photos are horizontal 2x3 wallet size and each day has room for one to 3 photos.

This book could also be used to house Christmas memories and does not have to be the 25 days of Decmeber.

Imaginisce Canvas stickers

Have you seen the Imaginisce travel line in the store. Check them out when you're checking out the new building. It is amazing! (The Imaginisce and the new store)

I started this layout with a couple of pieces of white dotty Bazzill. Using my vine mask I misted green Maya Mist and coffee Glimmer Mist around the edges. Then I turned over my mask and swiped the colour left on it directly on to my cardstock. It stuck on all the dotty bits and added lots of texture. I love it! And I didn't have to clean off my mask.

Here are some close-ups...

I used an entire sheet of canvas stickers to create a border along the two photos on the right hand page. Some of them are pop dotted up and others are stuck directly on to the photos and patterned paper.

I cut out some of the stamp images from a piece of patterned paper and created a corner for my two photos on the left page. Again, I pop dotted a couple of the stamp images.

Love the little plane sticker.

I tied a piece of wheel tracked ribbon along my patterned paper border.

Check out this line next time you are in the store. There are some really neat images and designs in this line.

It's December Daily Time!

It's December Daily time again.

I first heard about creating a December Daily from Ali Edwards, a designer, author and online blogger. I thought it was such a great idea. The point is to document daily activity for the days leading up to Christmas Day. The little things tend to get lost in all the hussel and bussel. So you take photos and journal then document in an album. This will be my third year creating a December Daily. It is really neat to pull out the past two and compare. The girls have changed so much! Join me to create your December Daily. I have made it easy for you to focus on the memories! Class details will be posted this week! But for now here is a sneak peek.

Every fall the berries on our Rowantrees ripen and then the birds come. They are gluttons. They eat so many, so fast they end up getting drunk on them and flying into our windows. Turbo, Breanna's kitty, spends his time sitting under the hedge in the front yard waiting for dinner to bounce off the living room window and land at his feet.

The background patterned paper, chipboard, stickers and alpha are all BoBunny's Etc line. I also used some Imaginisce patterned paper.

I love the blingy Prima bird. Had to find a spot for him on this layout.

I love that the sticker sheet comes with 3 different little alphas on it with loads of letters. I used the cream coloured one to spell out my quote. There was more than enough letters for the two sentences.

The black and brown set of alphas will be saved for future layouts.

BoBunny Etc line ~ a two page layout

I love the colours in BoBunny's Etc line.And the sticker sheets that coordinates with it.

I used one of my scroll masks with Tsukineko's 'pinecone' ink and my Tim Holtz applicator to add some design elements to the edges of photo block.

Here are some close ups...

My title. I used the a scroll from BoBunny's coordinating chipboard sheet and the chipboard alpha that also belongs with this line.

The bird is one of Kaiser's woodcuts. I stamped it with one of my collage stamps and my favourite pinecone ink. The brads are 7Gypsies.

I still had my big butterfly punch out from last layout so I used it again. I think I want a bigger one. Note to self: check Unforgettable Memories for a really huge butterfly punch...

I layered border stickers from the sticker sheet along the bottom of my big photo and some of the word stickers above and below the row of jewels.

I punched those 3 butterfly images out of the graph paper for my previous layout and then decided to use the graph paper as a matte for my big photo on this layout. Luckily I had punched my butterflies in a neatish row along the bottom of the paper.

Always planning ahead.

Check out this line the next time you are in Unforgettable Memories. It is one of my favourite lines ever. I can't stop playing with it. I have another layout on my desk almost completed. It will be ready to post next weekend.

Making a list and checking it twice ~ wreaths

Have you made up a list for all the Christmas crafts you are want to do this year?

There are so many great ideas out there. I've been looking at wreaths. Which one should I put on my front door.
This one from GoodHousekeeping?

Wouldn't it look fabulous with the stars made of double sided Christmas patterned paper, though I like the white too.

Or what about this one. I've always loved paper with the kraft colour background. You could even stamp Christmas images in red and white on the kraft if you didn't find a patterned paper you liked.

There's this wreath from the Fancy Pants blog posted a couple Christmas's ago. It looks like a lot of work, but it sure is pretty...

Curly patterned paper is always effective. I made ornaments using curly papers in clear ornament balls last Christmas. This wreath would be just as easy and fun, I'm sure. Just curl the paper and pin or glue to a styrofoam wreath form.

I've loved this wreath for ages. This blogger made it for a spring wreath but I think it would look fabulous with christmas coloured butterflies or maybe more traditional diecuts attached.

Birthday Girl with Echo Park papers

I love how bright and colourful these Echo Park 'Happy Days' patterned papers are.

I thought they'd be perfect for photos of my little girl on her 13th birthday hanging out with her friends on the back deck enjoying the sour lollipops one of her good friends made for her.

I sprayed rose glimmer mist and splattered yellow die ink on my white background before adding blocks and strips of patterned paper. I had some festive carnival stamps in my collection. I used teal ink to stamp the images on my page and embellished them with Kaiser jewels.

I made my title with some cheerful yellow felt alpha stickers by Prima and a birthday cake charm.

Love the Jenni Bowlin buttons. I've used them on many layouts...

I punched some butterflies out of the graph paper in this line and then outlined them with black once I had them on the page. They pop :)

I would like to welcome our newest designer and teacher to Unforgettable Memories Foto Source. Welcome, Angela Gatt!

Hello! My name is Angela Gatt and I've been a scrapbooker for about 12 years. My pages have certainly evolved from stickers and decorative scissors to the multidimensional 12x12 pages I make now. I used to work at Unforgettable Memories before going to school to become a teacher; I'm happy to be back around paper and glue.

My go-to scrapbook companies are Cosmo Cricket and Basic Grey. I like to use earth toned supplies more than brights. No page is complete without a little bit of ink and some pop dots!

My family consists of myself, my boyfriend and two very big dogs so you can expect to see lots of pages about every day events, pets, and outdoors activities. On occasion, I also make minibooks and cards.

I am excited to be on the design team and look forward to teaching classes in the new store. You can look forward to me teaching classes in the new year about resolutions and holiday celebrations. I will always try to teach you about a new technique or share ways to work with a certain product. On November 29, I'll be teaching a Christmas card class where we will make 8 different designs and work with a variety of techniques and tools.

Inspiration

What is this, you ask? To you, maybe just a stack of photos on a notebook...
to me...inspiration!! I am going to do a PILE of scrapbooking this weekend, and in making the plans for it, I have found myself becoming more and more inspired and motivated to actually get some layouts and projects done. And it's simply because I went and printed a huge stack of photos. {I also got a bunch of 8x12 enlargements, and I have to go back for a couple 12x12's}.
I'm not kidding - when I look at that pile I am feeling a little giddy about getting them in an album and remembering stories and diving into an enormous stash of COLLECTED STUFF...
Alright then, don't sit around waiting for inspiration to hit you like a lightening bolt or creative motivation to descend on you like...a lightening bolt...(sorry, i've got nothing for that one)...
Just start getting ready to make some stuff and see what happens. :) The girls at the store can print up piles of photos in no time and you can get practically any size of photo your crafty little heart desires.

Apron Class

I am so excited for the new store to be up and running. The first class scheduled to be taught in the new classroom is this very pretty canvas apron. This class is on Wednesday, November 30th from 7-9 pm. The cost of this class is $15.00, which includes instructor, apron and adhesive. Lots of photos ~ a two page layout

My friends and I took a ton of photos the day we hiked up to the Teahouse at Lake Louise. I printed a lot of them off as 2" x 3" and cropped down the few 4" x 6"s I had. The main photo is a 5" x 7". In the end I managed to get 10 pictures on this layout.

The Bazzill Cardstock I used on my background is masked and misted using my favourite Crafters Workshop vine mask.

Have you tried Prima's flocked rub-ons yet? Prima has some gorgeous examples using the rub-ons on their blog here. I have used the flocked rub-ons on a couple of recent layouts. On this layout I cut out the negative images left.

I cut up some paper doilies (My Little Yellow Bicycle) and layered them with punched pattern paper and Jenni Bowlin buttons with string tied through the stitch holes.

I layered BoBunny stickers and diecuts and patterned paper.

The circle journal spots are from My Little Yellow Bicycle's friendship tablet.

Misting and stamping

I used Cosmo Cricket's odds & ends line on this two page layout of my cute nephew enjoying his Mexican vacation.

I started with two 12x12 sheets of kraft cardstock as my background. I wanted to do a misted border down the left side so I covered all but 3" with a piece of scrap paper. I laid my curly mask and sprayed with Espresso and then with Gold glimmer mist. Then I pulled out my world stamp and placed 4 images on to my border.

I used the same recipe on the lower right corner.

I used loads of the stickers from odds & ends on this layout, like the 3 tags I tucked under the photo of snoozin' Wade.

I love the huge green brads in the center of the red flowers. They are so bold and vibrant. I think they're by Bazzill. I know Unforgettable Memories has them in a few colours.

I layered some more stickers on top of a piece of patterned paper and a length of MM's travel tape.

I wanted more green on my layout so I drizzled some ink vertically in a couple of places. Just hold the paper upright so it dribbles down the page.

Stamping with Glimmer Mist and a challenge

I have a stamp that is a collage of tropical images. More Hawaiin then Mexican, but I decided to go with it anyway. I sprayed my stamp with a green Mist and stamped down. Than I cleaned off my stamp by rubbing it off on the top and lower edge of my paper.

Glimmer Mist stamped this way is not going to give you a sharp, clean image. Instead you get the grungy look you see below. Rubbing the remaining ink on the paper edges adds to the grunge :)

Then I decided on a challenge for myself.

Only use stickers on this page.

No patterned paper, no flowers, no lumpy embellishements. I counted the MM decorative tape as a sticker.

When I first started scrapbooking I used A LOT of stickers. Then there was a period of time when I thought all stickers were not 'cool', even alphabet stickers. There are so many neat sticker designs out there and I had a sheet of Cosmo Cricket "Salt Air" stickers that I hadn't broken open yet. I wasn't sure about mermaid stickers for a boy page, but I found a spot for them ;)

Use masks & mists to create backgrounds

I had some snapshots of my sister and her family geocaching last summer that I wanted to scrap.

I started off with a couple of pieces of kraft cardstock and laid my latest favourite mask ~ the vine mask by Crafter's Workshop ~ in the center of the two pages. I sprayed with Jazz Blue Glimmer Mist.

I also sprayed a butterfly mask in the top right and lower left with Latte Metalic Mist ~ also by Tattered Angels.

I rubbed Pinecone ink around the edges of my pages

There is a fun line by Cosmo Cricket called Odds & Ends. I started cutting into the papers I picked up at the store last shopping trip and used strips and rectangles to put under my photos.

The butterflies are K & Co.

I used woodcut scrolls and leaves, chipboard flowers, buttons, epoxy photo corners, Thickers felt alpha for the title and some photo frames - I love them!

Bo Bunny 'Welcome Home' line ~ a two page layout

Here it is. The page I showed you in my last post. I finished it on Monday and got my dining room table all cleaned off so we could eat dinner together as a family.

The papers are from the Bo Bunny Welcome Home line. I also used the Noteworthy diecuts. The frame and journaling bit on the lower left group of photos is from the diecut package, as is the piece I've journaled about all the 'good food' we ate on. And the journal spot with the photo grouping in the lower right corner. So I used 4 pieces from the pack and have loads left over for future layouts.

I love the 12 x 12 sticker sheet. You can see I used a couple of the border strips on this layout. They are a little shy of 12" so I added some strips of patterned paper crossways to cover the gap.
I also used some of all 3 alphas. I really like that this line comes with three (3) alphas.
And I tucked away the 3 round stickers on my layout. They are perfect embellishments on any page. Can you spot them?

The title is left over from a Crate Paper diecut sheet (the colours just happened to work perfectly with this line).

The dimensional butterflies are My Little Yellow Bicycle.

I cut up one of Prima's felt branches to embellish my cream coloured flowers with.

Each flower is centered with a Kaiser pearl.

Who's scrapping this long weekend?

I am.
My friends and I took a long weekend and headed to Canmore, Banff and Lake Louise. It was such a good time. None of my girlfriends scrapbooks so I ordered a set of 2" x 3" photos and thought I'd put together a layout for each of them.

So far I've got my background done. Starting with kraft cardstock I used my border mask and 'Cherub Pink' glimmer mist to divide my page into thirds.

Then I randomly stamped using Pinecone ink and various stamps from my collection. I love the feather stamp!

I picked up the BoBunny 'Welcome Home' line last week. So I used some pieces from that to edge my page as well as the border stickers from the matching sticker sheet.

The sticker sheet comes with 3 different alphas. Green, blue and tan. I used the green one for my date.

I better get this layout done by this afternoon. My scrapping stuff has been all over the diningroom table for a week now and I think my family is getting tired of looking at it.

I did manage to get a couple of layouts done for my own album.

I used scraps of BoBunny and Imaginisce for this page. And puffy stickers from Creative Imagination. The alpha stickers are MME. The buttons are from BoBunny's "Welcome Home" line. There are some really interesting buttons in this packet.

I got a lot of mileage out of my 4 sheets of the Welcome Home line by BoBunny. I used if first on this layout and then scraps on the two pages above. Aren't the background sheets on this layout gorgeous? Some border punches and stickers from the same line. You should really check it out next time you're in Unforgettable Memories. There are lots of add-ons that go with it; buttons, chipboard, jewels, stickers...

Oops. My blue branch of leaves came loose and is floating on the left there. :) The chipboard is sticky backed, but a little glue would have been a good thing.
The MLYB line goes really well with the BoBunny. I picked up the chipboard (birds and branch with circle words hanging from it) and the decorative matts; circle and the square(cut in half).

Imaginisce 'happy camper' layout

Have you seen the Happy Camper line in the store. It is so cute and perfect for outdoor photos. I love the little pink diecut bird. The trees and clouds were in the same package.

Wood grain patterned papers are so popular and have been for a while. I love them. Check out the store for a variety of colours and designs. There are even some sheets of 'real' wood to use on your layouts. The wood paper I used here (Cosmo Cricket I believe) is a leftover piece from another layout I made months ago. I had cut a big circle out of the middle for my first layout so for this one I placed a big doily in the empty hole and then put the lot onto a piece of mustard yellow bazzil cardstock.

I misted over a tree mask and then splattered some yellow Making Memories paint using an old toothbrush.

Did you notice the Prima packaging under my big tag? And I love the texture of the Prima canvas leaves. So gorgeous!

The photo is of my two little boys in a big leaf pile when they were about 8 months old. Daddy thought it would be a good photo op. I don't think Daniel agrees. He's in the back with the worried look on his face.
I wanted to crop the photo so the boys were more the focal point, but then I would have lost the leaf pile and the fall colours so instead I wraped some green jute around to create a frame. This is a fun technique. It would work with natural jute; the kind you wrap parcels in, or even bakers twine. Look in the ribbon section at the store.

Cosmo Cricket 'Salt Air'

Have you seen Cosmos Cricket's 'Salt Air' line in the store. What a fun line to use for summer water pictures; at the beach, on holidays, or in the tub.

I picked up 4 patterned papers; 2 Deckchairs for my background and 1 Fish tales for matting and extras and 1 Border piece.

I love that they're all double sided. To get my stripy border I cut a 3" strip from my background, flipped it over and attached it back on using a strip from the Border sheet to hide the join.

The border strips are perfect for making rosette flowers. I see rosettes everwhere so I decided to give them a go. I used a 6" length the width of whichever border strip I chose and folded them back and forth in about 1/4" increments. So easy! I punched little circles and distressed them for the centers and added a Kaiser jewel.

I used another of the Border strips for my journaling bits. I just tore each piece out and stacked them on top of each other before writing out my story.

I like to tuck tags behind my photos as an embellishment. These ones are outlined in black ink and then I scattered a few buttons.

I think my favourite rosette is the bright coloured stripy one.

I tucked a couple of Prima's pink hydrangeas below the rosettes and title sticker (Jolees) and scattered some Kaiser jewels around it all. I even put a few on my photos.

And here's the finished layout. I used more of the Border strips to ground my photos. The alphabet letters are from another Cosmo Cricket line I had in my stash.

Don't you love the pink flip flops? Those are Jolee's stickers.

Making Memories 'Escape' line.

This page came together very quickly and easily. I built it on the MM hibiscus foil paper which is so shiny and pretty I felt I needed to keep my embellishments fairly simple.

I layered a page out of the Just Chillin' journal book with a piece of the Varnished Passport pp under my photos.

In the top corner I tied a couple of MM travel tags to a strip of PP.

In the lower corner I placed 3 Prima flowers which are the perfect colour with the foil. Looking at layouts I've done in the past I seem to do the 3 flowers in a downward triangle quite often.

The two pennants are also from the MM Escape line. I find the pennants want to slip down the pin when the page is hanging vertically so I used a glue dot under each one to keep it in place.

I just loved this paper when I spotted it at the store. The colours are gorgeous and the design is so realistic. I knew just the photo I wanted to use with it.

This was one of those 1/2 hour layouts.

I cut one of my Prima crochet doilies in half for the banner and glued it to some copper tape I had.
I added lots more Prima flowers.
The butterflies are K&Co.
The canvas tag is MM and the transparency is 7 Gypsies.

Paint Daubers

'Day is Done'

Have you tried them yet? They are so fun. I recently bought a white one and then wasn't sure what to do with it so I googled Paint Daubers. Tim Holtz has some great ideas and videos for using the daubers on your paper craft projects. I found one by Heidi Swapp that had a neat techniqe for using the white dauber on the edges of the black Cosmo Cricket chipboard. I thought it would look awesome as an edge to my layout so I tried it. And loved it. After dabbing the paint around the edges I stamped over it with a script stamp. You can see the video here.

Then I used my favourite big scroll mask and the pink Glimmer Mist and sprayed my background. I added a little more pink with an inkpad once the Glimmer Mist had dried.

I really like the package of white frames I picked up. The long thin strips I backed with K&Co paper. The big square one I cut in half and used on each side of my layout. I also cut the crochet doily in half.
To embellish my page I used some Basic Grey pieces, Little Yellow Bicycle journal spot and, of course, some Prima.

Crafters Workshop

Have you tried any of the Crafters Workshop stencils yet? I bought the leafy one along with a couple of metallic mists and made this gorgeous shimmery background. I tore the page in half and used it to border each end of my layout.

hi girls! I just took some layouts to the store, and I got to see Heathers layout that she just posted below, and it's even nicer to see in real life with all the layers and dimension. Go have a look!

So, I saw a sketch online this week that was SO simple, i had to do it -

just a simple photo that shows what i've been really into these days - and a small collection of things at the corner that speak about the photo or your journaling. Perhaps it's more simple than something you would normally do - but it's sometimes so gratifying to make a layout in 20 minutes that totally captures something about life RIGHT NOW.

I also have no will power when it comes to resisting alphabet chipboard/stickers/thickers. I tried to use up the odd ones that are left over on one layout for another favorite photo:

Doodled a bit and added some embroidery border. Embroidering on a layout is a good thing to do when you're watching Project Runway re-runs. {Just in case you were looking for something to do.}

And another one inspired by Crystal - I always like her colorful layouts with lots of fun patterned paper.

i like the little clouds that are on layouts now, and I happily discovered that you can make cloud-like shapes with the scalloped punch, by using half the scalloped circle. I'll be doing it again. Have a great week! Spring is here!!

Tropical holiday photos.

I scrapped my sister's first Mexican holiday album using the Making Memories vacation line. It was quick and simple with clean lines. I think I did most of it in a weekend.
But that was almost 3 years ago and I'm really enjoying playing with my masks and spray inks now. I hope she likes this layout as much as her previous ones.

I used a Heidi Swapp hibiscus mask on my background and sprayed it with pink Glimmer mist. Then I found an old package of HS hibiscus rubons so I layered them on top of the misting. They must have been past their 'use by' date because they didn't go on very easily. I really like the cream on top of the black on top of the pink on top of the white.

The turquoise vellum I wet, scrunched up, then laid flat to dry. I edged it with light blue stickles and then sprinkled a little dark blue glitter on top of that. I thought it looked like a pool of cool rippling water.

The patterned papers are all Karen Foster. I also used some Mulberry paper because I love the texture. And my border punch that I think looks like a sea shell.

The alphabet chipboard is a Basic Grey set. I love their sets. You get a ton of letters. I've used this set a couple times before and I still have lots of e's and a's left for more titles. I swiped some blue and pink ink across the white so it wasn't so bright. And then sewed the letters down to secure them.

The colour combination is from this weeks Color Room challenge #56.

Explore ~ a two page layout

It's been almost a month since I've scrapbooked. We've been busy renovating our upstairs bathroom and getting ready for spring; I think it's finally here :)

So this is a layout I put together yesterday. I sprayed blue chalk mist over a diecut I had of the days of the week. And I splattered some green smooch spritz across the page just for fun. Actually my sprayer was clogged and i got annoyed with it and when I twisted off the top to unclog it I was standing over top of my paper instead of doing the smart thing and going to the sink to twist it off there. Oh, well. The splatters landed in just the right spots so I worked with it.

I couldn't find an alpha I like for the title so I used a mixture of old stickers I had lying around. Remember the old Chatterbox sticker letters? The 'o' is a piece of chipboard from a 'boy' themed sheet. (I used quite a few stars from that same sheet to embellish this page). The chipboard 'p' and 'e' were pink and purple. I tore off the top layer to get the rough chipboard underneath.

I added some left over strips of punched patterned paper (Karen Foster) and a few stars to draw attention to my journaling. You can just see the 'Mon, Tues, Wed...' that I misted over underneath it all.

I used my 'Swiss Cheese' border punch along the edges of my crab photo. The blue mulberry paper peaks out of some of the holes and from under the border punched paper strips. I love tearing this paper. It reminds me of the waves foaming as they hit the beach. And I think the decorative border punch I used on the peach paper looks like seashells.

Photo Friday -Gear talk

I bet you thought I was going to forget about Photo Friday...well I confess, it was a close call. In the absence of a question to answer this week, I thought I would tell you about the new camera strap I got at the store a little while ago. It's called a Black Rapid RS-7. You can check out the website here:

The great thing about the RS-7 is that it's styled for a woman's build and fits so nicely across your body. The camera hangs down on your hip and it's out of the way and there is no strain on your neck. You can just pull it up to snap your photo. I just love mine, and I know if you're in the store, Lynette would be happy to show off hers too and how awesome they fit :) They are a bit more expensive than your average strap but I think it's definitely worth the cost.

Sparkly eyes on Photo Friday

hello all. I'd like to talk about sparkly eyes today... and how to make the subjects in your photos appear to have them. No photoshop involved, just positioning again. Photography is all about light, and once you decide that you really want to know your camera and more about photography, you will find yourself noticing light and appreciating it in a whole new way.
Where was I? Oh yes - I want to tell you about 'catchlights', which refers to capturing light in the eyes of your subject so that they appear to sparkle. The simply way to do this is to position your subject near an ample source of light, but not putting them directly in it. Indoors, this would be a near a window, but out of the direct sun, and outdoors, this would be called 'open shade'. You need to see an example -
here is another boy-o of mine, hanging out in the living room, not near a window:

a nice photo, but his eyes are a dark chocolate brown, and here they appear black.
Now, I positioned him in the light of a large partially shaded south window:

(sorry for the expression - he's not enjoying being 'positioned by the window').

If you click on these photos, you can see them in a larger window, and then you can even see my reflected silhouette in the iris of his eye. The light reflected from the window make his eyes look sparkly and give them lots of depth.

Shocking

I am shocked...
I always knew I was a little abnormal but I didn't know it was this bad. I heard that some people don't print off pictures regularily. The pictures are just left on camera cards until photos amount to in the thousands.
I think that sounds awefully dangerous. My photo memories are to precious to be left on a card just waiting for something to happen.
Here is how I manage my photos...
I upload photos weekly to my lap top. At that time I send them in to Unforgettable Memories Foto Source to be printed. Or I may take my card to the store and print them at the kiosk. Once photos are printed I get creative and scrapbook the best and most important memories. I try to have photo sizes in mind when ordering the photos I may want to use for layouts. This takes some planning ahead, looking for sketches or having a design in mind. A copy of all photos taken are stored in photo albums and easily accessible and displayed in my home for viewing. Then monthly I back my photos up on to an external hard drive. Photos stay on my lap top for 6 months up to a year just for easy access then I will clear them. So just to be safe my photos are printed and organized in albums, stored electronically in 2 to 3 places (lap top, online with Photo Finale, and on my hard drive), and most importantly... SCRAPBOOKED with journaling.

Castle Cake

I just wanted to share with you the cale I made for my daughter's 3rd birthday. It was actually pretty easy to make. I rented the 16 inch circle cake pan from Unforgettable Memories Foto Source. It used 2 cake mixes. Then I baked another 2 9x13 inch cakes. I cut those cakes into squares and layered them on top of one anther. I then let my kids ice the cakes with buttercream icing. We then covered the cakes in Fondont. To construct the towers, I used ice cream cones stcuk end to end with icing. I used waffle cones for the tops. To balance the towers I stuffed the bottom cones with icing, marshmellows and used small wood dowellings for added support. Getting the towers straight and steady was the trickiest part. We then finished by piping on the pink. My 16 year old neighbor, Amanda made the roses and helped with the fancy piping! We made the pathway with granola. We added a plastic Ariel doll, since Adalyn has red hair!

The castle looked like a scene right out of Disneyland once we lite the sparklers! Adalyn was a little nervous at first but I think she loved it in the end!
The best thing about this cake was that it was very pretty but it tasted good too. Would have been very disappointing had we cut it all up and then is didn't taste that good!

Clouds

Looking back through the layouts I've created over the past few months clouds seem to be a recurring theme. I've cut clouds out of patterned paper and white cardstock, I've made cloud masks out of scrap paper and sprayed clouds onto my background with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist or Shimmerz mists, I've used Jolee's sticker clouds (they have a great fuzzy texture).

On my latest layout I used Ric Rac as clouds.

If you haven't tried clouds on a layout you should. They add a fun, whimsical touch to any layout.

March Kit Class featuring Cosmo Cricket

Sorry about the wait. I have been super busy with report cards and getting ready for Adalyn's 3rd birthday! Boy, time is just flying by! This month our feature kit is Cosmo Cricket's Crica 1934. The class is on Tuesday, March 29th from 7 to 9 pm. The class will be $35.00 for non-members and $30.00 for members.
Here is a picture of the two page layout we will complete in class. Complete instructions and a color photo are included in your kit. We will definitely finish this layout in class. In the last 2 classes ladies have been finishing the class 2 pager and then at least 1 or 2 additional layouts. This layout is titled, "Time Flies By".

This is another 2 page layout I am working on. This layout will include a color photo and photo inspiration for you to complete. All paper is included. Chipboard pieces are an add on piece.

This is a 2 page layout. All paper and stickers are included. Again, chipboard is an add on and the title of this layout can be whatever you like as I used chipboard letters from my stash. Also used the We R Memory Keepers refill pages for this layout. They are such a great way to get alot of pictures scrapbooked quickly!

I should be able to squeeze one or two more layouts out of all this paper. That is my plan for tonight. So stop by the store soon and check out the layouts. Then sign up and I will see you next Tuesday, March 29th!

Photo Friday - a new perspective.

Hey scrappy girls...i want to talk to you today about something super simple that will make a HUGE difference in your photos - and you don't need to know a darn thing about your camera. All you have to do is stay in 'auto' and MOVE YOUR BODY. Let me give you an example, with my hungry little son as the model:

here's a regular old run-of-the-mill shot - Simon having a snack of strawberries:

Now, all I did was crouch down. staying in the very same place, and zoomed in a little:

It has a totally different look and feel to it! And all I did was move my body a bit for a new perspective. It's much more "belonging to the moment" than just "observing the moment".
So then, there was a chair right beside me, so I stood on it:

and you get an observation-like photo, but because it's more directly overhead, it gives you a little something different than the run of the mill. It's kind of artsy. {My kids are very used to my acrobatics when I have camera in hand. If your child seems startled that you are climbing to the top of their jungle gym this summer to get the shot, just keep it up, and they eventually won't notice.}

So then, I fill the frame again with my handsome subject, waiting for an expression that shows how much he is enjoying those strawberries in March:

And then, for one last shot, I tilted my camera waaaaay over:

and get an ordinary shot, made a little more interesting because of the big angle. Angles are very fun, and very easy, and most of us forget that it's an option. I encourage you to play with angles when you're taking shots for a whole new perspective on your subject. Plus, your grandparents (parents?) will look at an angled shot and say "Oh sweetheart...this one IS CROOKED!!!!" I always enjoy that one.

Easy, right? If you remember one thing from this post, just remember to get down low, and you will be not only look like a pro, but you will be instantly impressed with your photos. Have a great weekend! {SPRING BREAK IS HERE!!}

Karen Foster fishing line

I love this Karen Foster fishing line. I always have lots of fishing photos to scrap so I picked some up as soon as it arrived in the store. The word paper has some great titles in it. I used one of the sayings, 'love to fish' as my title. I tore out each letter individually and then made a banner out of it with some twine and green BoBunny (I think?) buttons on each end. I shaped each letter to make it look like it was flapping in the breeze.

The 'fishermens ruler' is also part of the word paper.

The remaining pieces of this patterned paper I used under my photos.

The bird on a branch is one of the woodcuts by Kaiser. I painted it brown and then used crackle medium to give it some texture.

I used one of my many, rarely used stamps on this layout. I've been challenging myself to use a stamp on each of my next few layouts. This is the second layout I've done with a stamped image on it somewhere. I stamped my bullrush stamp on a piece of green vellum then layered the pieces over other elements on my layout. I love that the vellum is a little see-thru.

Cropping at the Blueberry.

This is another layout I worked on last weekend at the Blueberry retreat.

As soon as I spotted the Karen Foster wave paper I knew I was going to cut it out. The colours matched perfectly with my photos. I love the two together.

I took a couple of water themed stamps out with me because I have so many stamps and I rarely use them. I managed to find a place for both stamps on this layout. The yaght I stamped on a pale yellow pp and cut out. Then I popped it in between the pale blue mulberry paper and the waves. The shell and text stamp I used in the top right corner under some other embellishments and again under my Little Yellow Bicycle acrylic journaling piece.

I sprayed Jazz Blue and Frost glimmer mist over one of my scroll glimmer screens. I accented the curls with some little blue Kaiser jewels. The ric rac I scrunched over top of my photos feels like fuzzy terry. The fish beads I've had forever. I strung them on some Karen Foster black twine and let them play in the waves.

I've also added some turquoise Hambly rubons, foil shells, blue netting, black photo flips and a watch glass with some little seashells underneath (like a little shaker box).

Winter is for the birds

I was out at the Blueberry on Saturday helping Lynette with the crop. It looked like everyone was having a very productive weekend. I also got some time to sit down and scrapbook a couple of layouts.

I put together this page with the remains of my BoBunny winterline. I love these papers.

I was all out of snowflake stickers and I hadn't taken any of my snowflake punches so I ended up cutting out the negatives from the sticker sheet. I love how they look on top of the Glimmer Mist I sprayed on my large scroll mask. Kind of lacey and pretty. So don't throw away those old sticker sheets till you've used them to their full potential :)

I used some Kaiser jewels in the centers of the larger snowflakes and for the birds eyes.

Ok, so here is today's question.

Is there is a quick and simple process to remember in order to shoot the sort of photos that I see on your blog where the subject is in focus and the background blurred?

The simple answer here is to set your DSLR on the Av, or aperture mode, and set it to the smallest f/number that you can. The aperture in your lens acts much like the pupil in your eye - it opens and closes to let a little or a lot of light in. When the f/number is LOW, the aperture is opened wider, to let more light in, and therefore the subject is in focus and the background is blurry. If you set your camera to the Av mode, you can control aperture and the camera will look after your shutter speed for you.

Here are three photos of Ahsoka taken at three different aperture settings. I put a jar of marbles behind her so that you can see how the depth of field (the amount of blur) changes with different aperture settings:

f/1.8 1/100 ISO 400

f/4.5 1/80 ISO 640

f/9.0 1/50 ISO 800

Do you see as the f/number gets larger, the marbles come into focus more and more? The aperture in the lens is closing and bringing more of the whole photo into focus.

Try playing around with the Av mode on your cameras, in an environment with lots of light, and review your results. Good luck!

Lynette would like to try something new on the blog: Photo Fridays. This is all there is to it: you send in your questions about photography, and I will try to answer them. On Friday. I shoot a DSLR, so my knowledge focuses on these cameras rather than the point-and-shoots. But ask away, and I'll do my best.
This week, I'd like to do a quick post about a question I hear often - How do I get those 'low light' shots without my flash going off? These might be examples of shots you would like to get:

(settings: ISO 800 aperture f/2.0 shutter 1/80)

You want your photo to look how it looked in real life, and not with the flash lighting the scene up, right? You are going to have to venture into manual mode, my friends. It is not scary. It is liberating. And you might want to spend a little money and buy yourself a little prime lens called a 50mm 1.8 if you don't already have one. (by the way, 'prime' means that it doesn't zoom). The reason I recommend this lens to everyone is 1) it's pretty cheap. around $150, or so. 2) it's loads of fun to play with as you learn about aperture and shutter speed and depth of field and...you get the idea! It's a fun little lens.
You will be able to get low light photos, and photos with a really shallow depth of field because this lens will allow you to set the aperture as low as 1.8. On the lens that your DSLR came with, you can probably only set it down to 3.5 or 4.0, and when you try to take photos in low light, I bet they turn out blurry, which is driving you crazy, right? This is because your lens won't open wide enough, and the shutter speed is too slow to prevent the blurring.

So - this weekend, try this with your camera: set it on the Av mode (this is the aperture mode). Set the number as low as it will go. The camera will adjust the shutter speed for you. Now take some shots. See what you get. Oh - make sure your ISO is set high enough for the light situation - the darker it is, the higher your number should be. Like any skill, you just have to practice and practice to get better. Go ahead and take 100 shots of something with different settings. See what makes the difference in your settings, save or erase the whole lot and try again.

This all sounds very overwhelming, but trust me - once you get it - you GET IT. I feel like I jumped into things in the middle here a bit - but next week we can do a nice simple overview.

Inspired by the warm weather

Warm spells here in FSJ in February and March are so misleading. You start to think that spring is around the corner...but that is one LOOOOONG corner, girlfriend. Silver lining: more cozy-dead-of-winter-scrapbook-time for we crafty chicks. That being said - the melty weather had me thinking of spring and the new-ish patterned paper at the store was a perfect fit.

I really like this line of paper from Crate Paper - I think it's called the seasons line. I like the sheet with the little birds that are saying "Oh" and "Hi". They're so funny.

And this layout is from the My Minds Eye line, called Alphabet Soup. This layout doesn't feel like my "style", but it's a personal favorite (mostly for the photo, I think).

Handmade flowers and blingy ribbon

The background pp and title stickers are Echo Park. The rest of the patterned papers is Harmonie. Also the ribbon. And that pretty wood flower peaking out from behind the photo is what the ribbon came wound around.
I 'stitched' along the edges of the diecut paper with my white gel pen.

I've been seeing these little rolled flowers everywhere so I decided to give them a try. They are very simple to make. Just cut a circle; I used the inside of the glue dot roll for the smaller one and a pillar candle I had on my dining room table for the larger flower. Then I cut the circle in to a spiral shape and rolled it using glue dots to hold my rolls in place. Add some bling to the center and a couple of handcut leaves from patterned paper and they're done.

Just remember that the wider your spirals and the tighter you roll your flower the more it will stand off your page. I flattened mine a little so they weren't so bulky.

Doilies, mists and ribbon

We went to see the 12 Days of Christmas at Butchart Gardens when we were visiting Victoria in December. I took a ton of photos; some with the flasth on and some with the flash off. These were all taken with the flash off.

I sprayed yellow ink using a doily as a mask on my shiny black cardstock.

Now I have a bright yellow doily to use on another project.

I used some Hambly turquoise rub-ons on the purple mulberry paper.

I really like how this corner rub-on embellishes my big photo.

My journaling is on the tag slipped behind the photo matte.

The 4 Calling Birds were my favorite scene. They had cell phones in their beaks.

I hope everyone is recovering nicely from the festivities. It was lovely to get 4 days off in a row.

Do you have a list of scrapbooking blogs you like to check out? I have a couple dozen saved in my 'Feeds'. One of them is Britt from Norway. I love seeing what she's created each week. She cuts her kids out of many of her photos; she says to get rid of the clutter in the background. And then she builds fantasy worlds around her kids. They are wonderful. She says she finds a lot of her images on the internet.
You really should check her out.

I've never attempted a layout using her style until this past weekend. I had some photos of Breanna goofing around on some concrete structures left over from the world war, at McCauley Point Dog Park in Victoria. The backgrounds in the photos weren't that interesting so I cut her out and made a fantasy land for her to play in.

I started off making the background with blue Glimmer Mist, green Shimmer Mist and a yellow Mist I mixed up myself with a reinker. The trees are Glimmer Screens (the same ones I've used on my last half dozen layouts). The clouds are handcut. Around the splotch of yellow Mist I glued down some Mulberry paper to create suns rays.

I had fun building the swing out of a piece of corrugated cardstock and some twine, and then hung it from one of my popped up clouds. Sassy Frassy Lassy was printed on a clear page and cut out. 'Uniquely You' is by Fancy Pants. The butterflys and flowers are punched out of a scrap of Cosmo Cricket.

I felt like I was back in Grade School Art class with no rules except to have fun.

Here comes a new year...

...and with it, some long long winter months to...scrapbook! This is the BEST time to get to your crafty projects, I think. It's cold. Christmas is over. Spring is...I can't even picture spring in my mind, it's so far away. The store has some pretty cool Christmas and wintery-type paper and embellishments in, and now we have nothing but time to whip up those holiday and outdoor layouts, girlfriends.

This isn't a winter photo, but I loved the paper and the fact that there were six "spaces" on the Santa's Naughty or Nice List paper for everyone in my family.

Rather than check the naughty or nice sections, i used the arrows on clocks to subtly (or not...?) indicate who is naughty! All four of the kids of course. Trouble, I tell you. The black letters are shiny (you can't really tell in the photo) and font is a favorite. Lynette also has a nice big wall of American Crafts Thickers in all kinds of colors, textures and fonts. I am 100% addicted to buying any new ones that come along. I use them ALL THE TIME and I can't stop. There are also plenty of other alphabets by other manufacturers that you should check out too. Too many good choices!
So don't let the terribly cold weather and short days and the wretched snow get you down up here in the north. :) Just make a couple layouts about it. Happy New Year!

Another Winter Trees layout

I used the Christmas tree screen ~ though not as a Christmas tree. I had a couple more photos from our summer weekend at Pillar Lake that I wanted to scrap. It was a very woodsy setting so I thought the tree would be appropriate. I put the screen on a piece of kraft cardstock and sprayed it with green Maya Mist. Then I splashed some splotches of 'soot' Glimmer Mist over top.

The patterned papers are by QuickQuotes (brown spotty and blue stripe) and Doodlebug (green leaf). The ribbon is recycled from one of my Christmas presents.

I was going to cut triangles for my title banner but then found some old letter stickers in my stash and they were the perfect colour. I like the rectangular shape. It's a little different from the banners I've been making lately.

Some Prima leaves and flower, some buttons and a couple of Making Memory travel flag pins finish off my page.

And now I think I'll head down to my scraproom and create another layout around my 'winter trees' Glimmer Screens.

Tattered Angels 'Winter Trees' Glimmer Screens

Merry Christmas! We've had such a great day from opening presents, eating way too much good food and I even got some scrapbooking time in while hubby napped. He has to work tonight so I thought I'd put together a blog post before I wake him up and send him off.

Last week I picked up some Glimmer Screens.

I thought the tree on the far right would be perfect for Christmas layouts, but as I haven't gotten those photos developed yet I started playing with the other two images.

I'm still playing with the BoBunny 'Midnight Frost' line. I just love the colours; the blues and white with a little wine red thrown in for contrast.

I used the 'Frost' glimmer mist (the same one I used on my cards below) and sprayed over the tree screens on white cardstock. I layered the patterned papers, Diecut and chipboard piece under and over my photos. The journaling is framed on one side by a sticker bracket.

The punched snowflakes are edged with blue ink and I've used a Bazzill glass button in the center of each. I love these buttons; the colours are so pretty, but it makes it really hard to scan and stitch the layout. So just ignore the shaded line down the center; it's not there IRL.

After spraying the trees I could see there was lots of Glimmer Mist sitting on the tree Glimmer Screen so I flipped it over onto another piece of white cardstock. So instead of a mask I have stamp.

I used the edge of the 12 x 12 BoBunny 'midnight frost' chipboard shapes to frame my layout. This was a really quick layout to put together.

Make sure you check out the BoBunny 'midnight frost' line if you have snowy photos to scrap.

Making Christmas Cards.

I'm a little late making my cards this year so these won't go in the mail, but I'll be hand delivering a few to friends locally. Do you have a few more Christmas cards to make and hand out? These are quick and pretty.

I used Glimmer Mist so the cards all have a nice shimmer and sheen to them. The trim and snowflakes are punched from a blue metallic paper that adds even more shine.

I started off by cutting a piece of white cardstock a little smaller then my card base. I used a snowflake glimmer screen for my big image though you could also use a large snowflake die-cut or mask. I sprayed with 'frost' Glimmer Mist.

After punching my pieces I layered the snowflakes and put a blue jewel in the center of each one.

I stamped my greeting in the center of my large snowflake. I used the mini snowflakes that came out of my border on a few of my cards.

After sewing around the border of my decorated card front I glued everything down to the card base.

Fun with glitter.

There are so many sparkly embellishments available. I love them. When I picked out the glittery Prima butterfly to go on this layout I decided I needed more glitter on my page. This is what I used...

Glue Pad.
A tin with the right circumference for the circle I wanted. (This one is a Maya Rd tin; I think it had felt birds in it.
Glitter. I used Making Memories glitter in a copper colour.

I laid out my page and then used the tin and a pencil to lightly mark where I wanted my circle.

I dipped the edge of my tin into the glue pad; just like you would a stamp. After I moved the photos and mattes out of the way I stamped down with my tin on to the pencil mark I had made earlier. After lifting the tin off the paper I sprinkled a good thick layer of glitter over my circle.

This is how my pages looked after I shook off the excess glitter.

And here is the completed layout.

I think the circles really add to the finished page. And it was a really quick easy addition to create.

It's called Color Combos Galore. It is set up very similar to the Color Room I showed you last month but instead of a sketch this one has an inspiration challenge. Here is last weeks challenge combo and inspiration.

I love pink and green together so I had to play along. I started with a white sheet of Bazzill cardstock and used my mask letters for the title. You could place chipboard or even paper alphas you had cut out yourself for the title. Just lay it down and spray with Glimmer Mist. I also used the backing from a Prima felt border to create a border along the lower part of my page.

I planned on putting an acrylic sheet with green butterflies over my background (you can see it below) so I roughly sketched where the butterflies weren't so I had a place for my journaling.

Once I had my journaling all written out I adhered my acrylic butterfly sheet (by Hambly Screen Prints) down to my background and began building my matting and other embellishments for my layout.

And here is the finished layout. The doily was one I inherited from my Grandma. It had a 17c price tag on it, from Woolworths.

I love the acrylic overlays. Unforgettable Memories has a variety of designs. Make sure you ask about them the next time you're in the store.

The pretty flower spray is by Prima. There are few colours in the store. This pink spray was packaged with a purple spray. I can't wait to use it on a layout. They are so sweet.

The buttons are Jenni Bowlin. There must be half a dozen colours in the store. I've used the green ones on a few layouts recently.

I used 3 different border punches on my papers. I think the border punches are the best value for the money when it comes to scrapbooking tools. I use mine over and over. I never get tired of them.

Are you ready? Have you had fun decorating? I found some fun ideas on line to show you as well as a couple projects my daughter and I have been working on.
First is a wreath. It's square so can we still call it a wreath?

It was super easy to make. I cut out the rectangular shape from a shoe box lid. Wrapped it all in orange halloween paper.

I glued some Chip Chatter chipboard letters together to make my 'SPOOKY' word and tied it to the frame. Then I started glueing on black vellum circles I had punched using my scalloped circle punch. I scrunched the circles around the eraser end of a pencil and used a glue gun to adhere them to the frame.

Once I had finished covering the frame with scalloped circles I found a sticker title by Little Yellow Bicycle to add to the bottom right corner. I have it hanging beside my front door and I love it. Remember if you hang it on a window you will need to finish off the back neatly.

My daughter is hosting a halloween party and one of the acitivities she is planning is makeovers; spooky makeovers. She created this banner for the door to her makeover room.

We cut the triangles 8" long and 6" wide at the top. Breanna chose a Karen Foster halloween paper I bought last year. She used a new border punch I picked up last week, to create the black border. The green around the letter circles is ribbon we bought for this project, as is the green trim she used to hang the banner from. Both are available at Unforgettable Memories. She put eyelets in the bottom of each triangle and strung some pretty beads from there. The little figures (ghost, witch and skeleton) she cut from a Bo Bunny Halloween paper.

This project would look just as cute with 'BOO' as the title, or make a longer banner with 'Happy Halloween' on it. Lots of possibilities.

I've found some other fun Halloween ideas online. I love the BOO banner Keisha Campbell created for the Jenni Bowlin website.

And how about these coffee filter cobwebs. I could see them sprayed with 'soot' Glimmer mist or maybe some stickles for extra sparkle and shine.

This garland would be fun and easy to make with the kids. It would look extra special using double sided Halloween patterned paper. A leaf punch and some brads to attach the pumpkins to the raffia or Halloween trim and it's all done.

Have you checked out the new Canadian company, Harmonie. There is a lot of product from this company in the store. The film strip on this layout is a chipboard precut shape from Harmonie. I painted the chipboard and used glue to adhere it to the layout. You can check out this layout at Unforgettable Memories!
